i love prices from local tuners
Trey, Turbo cars are hard to quote a firm price. There are a lot of issues. One of the biggest has to do with heat. You have to let them cool when you start to apply load. Our base price to tune a turbo car is $1200. Our hourly rate is $150 for the dyno and $250 for the tuner. If it takes only 2 hours then then base rate of $1200 will apply. I assume that you are running unleaded pump gas. This rate is for tuning services only. Many times we have to work on fuel system, ignition systems and even change plugs. These things are not tuning and additional costs could apply. Thanks ---- |
I'm in the wrong business.
A mustang only runs 32k new. Halfsies? |

this is the same scenario I heard at the local firestone shop when they told a woman it was going to be over $400 to get her new battery installed. Preying on the uneducated (or who they think is uneducated). |
Good lord, around here you can rent the Dyno for a day cheaper than that.

Wow, an ls1 shop here only wanted 400 to tune the FI GTO, for 1k they'd tune and install a cam and valve springs.

jeezus, if changing plugs is a big deal, I can't imagine they could figure out how to tune a car. :ugh:

I went to a tuner shop nearby when I was looking for a turbo. I asked them how much it would cost to fab up intercooler piping, they told me 700 bucks.

sounds fair, cause they'd probably have to listen to you debate brands/heat ranges/gaps for about 3 hours before they could do the work. |

A long time ago I needed some body work done on the Miata. One of the shops listed $50 in the estimate for "roof removal".
THEY WANTED $50 TO UNLATCH THE HARDTOP! They didn't get my business.. |

Sounds right to me. How long do you think it takes? How did you want the pipes routed? I know I will spend over 10 hours doing all mine, with removing & reinstalling the bumper & fenders (I go thru the fenders), obviously cutting, trimming, welding all the pipes, bead rolling, adding BOV & IAC ports (install pipe, mark location, remove, drill holes, fishmouth the pipes, tack, reinstall to check fitment, remove, weld, reinstall...), bung for IAT sensor...

$400/hr for tuning? WOW.
MOM (for people who fell out of their chairs when they saw the price quote) |

Have you talked to BEGi about it yet? I know they have been wanting to "play" with a MS for a while to see what it can do.
Stephanie might work a deal with ya so they can experience the MS craze first hand. |

I paid $185 an hour for dyno and tuner, and I felt like I got ripped off.
|
my tune took the better part of a day and cost less than $350. Corr Performance in Port Allen, LA.

Along these lines, I just picked up a '91 Mazda 626 for $300 to use as a DD. had a bad idle along w/ a leaking head gasket so I pulled the head off (even though the girl gave me a receipt for $1400 for a R&R'd head <800 miles ago). Boy was I suprised when I pulled the head off.... I guess this shop's idea of a 'head refresh' was clean the mating surfaces and put a new head gasket on. Cyl #3 intake valves were leaking so bad i did a quick 'water test' with the head on the work bench and a full intake runner leaked out through the "closed" exhaust valves in <5 seconds.
good news is that my machine shop will have that head done on sunday for <$250 and i'll have a $550 car that runs perfectly :) |
