any year fits...I just have to source axels and driveshaft right and anything out of a 1.8 works together?

I'm pretty sure he can source you a carrier only. If your axles , etc. are ok. Oh maybe you don't already have a torsen unit.

oh, no its the factory 1.6 rear end :(

Well...I called around and I'm just waiting on a car to come in with a torsen LSD that I want on it...should have one within the month...

IIRC, the factory gearing on a 90-93 is 4.30 and the most common Torsen is a 4.10? This really wont be to noticable would it? just making my gears a little longer and reduce cruising rpms by just a tad?

I went from the 4.3 to the 4.1 when I put in the Torsen. It is not very noticeable with the turbo. First gear is a "little" more usable and now my speedometer is very accurate. It was always reading higher than GPS before.

:)

I just got an email quoting me 600-700 for the full swap...seems more than fair?

I'm going to be sending what's left of my parts car out to the junkyard in a week. I could sell you the whole rear clip with pristine rear fenders. actuall still have the bumper too.

might be a bit of a drive for you, but figured i'd let you know.

I think that's a fair price. If I recal you'd need the entire diff assembly (in your case including the carrier), and axles. If it's in good shape I'd pay $600. Fortunately for me I've got a 1.8 so all I'd need is the guts.

FYI: It's quite obvious from your pics that the diff was NOT caused by the accident. If you have full coverage you may want to talk to the insurance company as failures like that are generally looked at as an outstanding circumstance which will keep your rates from rising and allow you to get everything fixed without anything more invested than your deductable.

Really...hmmm, I'll give them a call, can't hurt to see what they say.

And from what I've gather, the entire diff assymbly, axles and the driveshaft.

miatamania 01-15-2007 02:51 PM

Well...I called and he said that it sounded like 'mechanical failure' and unless I wanted to file a claim and actually have someone go out and look at it to see otherwise its not covered...

And nobody at State Farm - Agent, Claims adjuster, or someone in the underwriting office knows what "outstanding circumstances"

Oh well.

Mymiataflys 01-15-2007 06:55 PM

I paid 1200 from Mazmart about 6 years ago. I was new to miatas then and didn't know better. 700 is a very good price for the entire swap.

miatamania 01-15-2007 11:59 PM

dang.

Mechanical Failure is what I was speaking of... which was the outstanding circumstance which caused the wreck. Not your speed, stupidity, etc... mechanical failure. It could happen to anyone and anytime and like I said most insurance companies know that.

:vash:

Makes me wonder what the hell I'm paying for.

read up on "no fault" states like MI. then you'll be thankful for your insurance company and the way they work. PLPD is the worst idea EVER.

kk

PLPD?

rotaryjunky 01-18-2007 11:18 AM

PLPD is the minimum coverage in Michigan. You pay money but your not actually covered for anything except if you hit someone and they sue you for personal injury. And if someone hits you, the most you can get for your car is $400 unless you have your own collision coverage. I just keep it on my regular cars/beaters. Its about $200 for six months.

Arkmage 01-18-2007 12:14 PM

it's like paying for no insurance. liability only is one thing... at least if you hit someone their vehicle is covered... with PLPD everyone fixes their own stuff regardless of who ran the stop light/sign. it also make the cost of collision coverage mile high so people can't afford reasonably new vehicles. Result is that everyone is driving an unsafe POS that will cause accidents just because the brakes down work, it stalls constantly, you can't see through the cloud of smoke, and the frame is bent to hell. MI sucks.

dang...thats a retarded idea.

I have a torsen on order with a local guy...said he'll call me on the first car that comes in...so a couple of weeks...hopefully it wont be to long.

On a side note, I wish my W2 would come in already so I can get that tax stuff back :)
