I really suck at Halo3

I'm serious. My sister, a hardcore gamer, gave me an Xbox360 and a copy of Halo3. Now, I used to be really into FPS games on the PC- Wolf 3d, Doom I and II, Rise of the Triad, Hexen, Duke Nukem 3d, Quake, Heretic, you name it. But I've never played an FPS on a console before. I just can't get use to the whole concept of tiny analog joysticks. I need a mouse to look with!
Seriously, does anybody else have this problem? Every PC FPS I ever played (except Wolf3d) was look with the mouse, move with the cursor arrows. This whole deal with using your thumbs just isn't doing it for me...
On the plus side, using the Xbox360 as a media center PC is truly the cat's ***. The picture and sound quality I get streaming media off my PC is absolutely phenomenal- it even plays DIVX movies! Regardless of my personal misgivings towards MS, the decision to allow that codec was an awesome move.
Now, if only someone would come up with an Xbox360 mouse and find a way to integrate it into Halo...

Ludicrous Gibs! Now that was some good videogame violence:

Not to mention that ROTT was the game that finally convinced me to buy a decent soundcard. Zach Lausman owned a Gravis Ultrasound, and the day after ROTT came out so did I.
Y8s- yeah, the Xbox has two standard USB ports in the front, for plugging in things like USB flash drives for media playback. The underlying problem is not one of hardware but of software, specifically application support. If the game does not support mouse input then it doesn't matter if there's a mouse hooked up.
However, some quick Googling has shown that apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. And apparently there are some potential DIY solutions. Not sure how easy it'll be one-handing the controller (particularly with the jump and weapon toggle controls on the right) but there may be hope.
BTW, Brainey,
= eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew.

Yeah, that's dead-on. I understand that Sonic I and II are available on Xbox Live, and I'll definitely be getting them.
Pitlab77 and IcantDo55, I honestly can't remember the first video game I played. It was probably Galaga. I've always loved that game, and I have already downloaded it from Xbox live. I hadn't even been born when either Space War or Pong were written, so I can't be that old, can I? (is 31 old?)
I also downloaded a playable demo of Tron- it's exactly like the arcade version, except no spinner! Again, the console user-interface ruins it. That game is unplayable without a spinner. I avoided downloading Tempest for the same reason. Tried Missile Command and had the same problem- you can't emulate a trackball with a thumbstick.
TonyC, I'm feeling ya. Except I really have no need for a BluRay player. Frankly, I can't remember the last time I bought a DVD- it's been at least 4 or 5 years. Of late, my preference has been for downloadable media. The quality is maybe 8/10, but it's instant gratification and, well, free. On that note, I couldn't be happier with the Xbox. With the component video output and S/PDIF audio interface, the picture and sound quality are noticeably better than what I had before with my homebrew Media PC, and I'm finally able to get Dolby Digital out of it- even though my MPC had a S/PDIF output, I could never get it to work for anything other than 2-channel PCM, even when playing a mounted .ISO directly. Plus, TopGear in HD FTW!
I'm not allowed to suck at video games! In college, I was "That Guy"! You know, the one who nobody liked playing Command & Conquer with because the game always ended the same way- wave upon wave of attack helicopters casting a black cloud over my opponents base- choppers and attack planes swarming upon the construction yard faster than the enemy AA guns could shoot them down. And just as the power stations had been wrecked and the last helicopter shot out of the sky, the heavy tanks started rolling in...
But then again, I had a mouse for that one.

I learned halo on the PC, started playing online and got addicted, played it all the time. I stopped playing it a while back when my game file got corrupt, except I still had Halo Trial so I played the one online level that had every now and then. When I got my xbox, I sucked ***! Took me a while to get used to not using a mouse. You'll get it..
Haha duke nukem! I learned what a titty bar was from that game.
And that if you press spacebar in front of the chicks you give them money and they get naked.
I was like 10.
Good times.
I was the same way...played halo, cs, call of duty all on pc and then sucked at them on console. Ive got the hang of it now. It just takes some time.
Play with the noobs for a while to build your confidence.

I'm 22, when I was young I couldn't afford a nice computer so I had N64 and a PS.
The mouse is not my friend. The only computer game I'm good at is Sim City 4. I LOVE that game. I crashed my old computer from downloading EVERY expansion someone made.

Oh god I'm old, I remember my 1st video game it came from RadioShack and was called Pong or something like that. Two lines that moved up and down I was like 7 years old. Than the Atari 2600 was the **** as I grew up.

Those were the days. Fire up the 486 dx2 66 mhz, press the turbo button, drop in the boot disk and have some fun. I pretty much stopped playing fps's right at the end of you list there. Maybe a little hl and hl2 but that's about it.
I've got a 360 and the only thing I'm half good at is street fighter 2. Maybe that's why I cant seem to bring myself to throw away the snes.
