Wow, that IS interesting. The only problem is that the recession that is kicking everyone's collective asses around the country hasn't hit here yet due to the strong oil field. So home prices are still batshit crazy high here. The bottom should be falling out about 3 months after the deadline for that credit though.

 

Meh. It took me almost 4 hours to shovel the driveway and clean off the car so I could drive to Wally world to get more cold medicine.





The driveway isn't that long, but due to the weather this week, it was 5-6" of snow-ice-snow-ice-snow. Good times...

 

LOL for me to get anything even remotely close to ice on my car I'd have to drive at least 2 hours north

oh and sorry for the ice chunks on the freeway. I did lift the piece off the hood in several 2' squares. the rest I just broke up and left on the car. oh well.

 

My car has never seen weather below 50 and has been garage kept since I bought it.

Been in NY for a month+, and its been under snow ice 4-5times. Depressing sight...I cna hear her saying.."hey, what about meeeeeee?"

 

That's as bad as it gets in DFW. We get real snow up here.

I've driven my green car in the rain once, lol. Its a garage queen. I prayed for snow when the subaru ran.

 

Last winter my miata was so covered in ice that I couldn't get into it to start it and the ice scraper barely chipped the ice. That was fun. Screw all you guys that get to drive around with the top down year round. I am so ditching Wisconsin when I can afford to move.

It doesnt get any better. Had to clean a foot of snow of the Gfs car a few days ago after only being parked there for a few hours. Cant wait to move away from NY. Snow sucks and blows.

 

We sold the place we owned in Houston 1.5 years ago so that disqualifies us.

We got 5.0% (no points) and I had to really weigh the pros/cons of taking that rate right now. I (and the mortgage broker) do believe rates will continue to slowly drop for a while yet. Problem is you can't roll the closing costs into your refi (making a refi nearly pointless) if the appraised value of your house drops such that the underwriters won't approve the new loan. There are a few houses for sale in my neighborhood, but nothing has sold in the past couple of months. We were kind of our own "comp" for appraisal purposes, and had to show receipts for the improvements we've made to convince the underwriters that the house is still worth what we paid 6 months ago. If I waited for rates to keep dropping, while nothing is selling, I would risk the appraised value dropping and nixing the whole deal. We bought at 6.375 and 5.0 will save us a few hundred a month. I couldn't look that gift horse in the mouth any longer. These are historical lows we're seeing.

If you want to see something scary, look at this table and scroll down to the late 70s and early 80s when we had a bad case of inflation. How anybody managed to buy or sell a house for more than $20K back then is beyond me.

On topic: the ice is no longer afflicting my vehicles, and they say it will be warm on Sunday. If it hits 50° the top's coming down, if only to the grocery store and back.

First time the dog ran out to the frozen back yard and lifted his leg to pee, he slipped and fell right on his *** and slid downhill a bit. But his balance has improved a bit over the past couple days.

 

damn, I wonder who paid 18% for a house! I'll happily keep my 5.75 for a long time.

incidentally, not to make this political but if the stimulus package passes, that $7500 "loan" may become a straight up tax credit not requiring repayment.
