IF they piss us off why do we try to save them?

Seriusly what makes us bash our heads into the wall while we school people who do not want to learn? Are we massakists or what.

My theory is that maybe there will be one kid or old motherfucker we reach who actualy learns and understands something we teach them. And so long as that happens it is worth it. The epiphany of the newb is a wonderfull thing.

I honestly did read your post, and I agree with most of it. But hot dang if that didn't make me laugh.

For me, there are two reasons.

1: I believe that if even one out of ten annoying newbs is actually able to be reached, reasoned with, and made to learn, then it's worth the hassle. Sort of a "sum total of human achievement" sort of thing.

2: If we simply shun every single new user who shows up, then the forum will die a slow death by attrition.

Quoted for truth...

As a newb, I appreciate the efforts of those that have tried. Unfortunately, as popular as this car is, it would seem that you might get an inordinate number of dumbasses; such is the price of success.

I've been an active 'teacher' on my local VW board for at least 7 years now, and honestly I believe that I am often not heard, even thought I have driven and worked on VWs for 20 years. More times than not, they will do it wrong, and wonder why. I don't berate them, and I try not to embarrass them, I just try to remember that everyone is doing what they can to just survive this shitty world. Anger inhibits learning, but that does not mean it is easy not to be.

No shit? Were you on the VintagVW listserv back in the mid 90s by any chance?

fahrvergnugen 08-23-2009 06:53 PM

If that is the archive that Jan VandeBrande headed, yes, but very little. I was on the Scirocco List and the Vanagon list in the mid '90s as well. I was a little late on to the web... :Loser:

I prefer constructive, abrasive critcism. Painfully abrasive of course.

That sand in the mangina has to get out some how... :D

Go read back some of the more defined members first few posts, they're near clueless as well.

I mean personally this was the first car I had ever modified to the extent I have and I was/am(to a lesser extent) was completely dumb. Thankfully with lots of time and reading I'd say I could help someone with a good majority of the things i've learned.

I'm just starting to research the Greddy turbo kit, downloaded the images of the install manual from this site (many thanks to White Roadster for that) and from what I've read I am puzzled by two points...

First, there doesn't seem to be any mention of water lines being run. Am I correct in that the Mitsu TDO4H-15 is entirely oil / air cooled? The version of the instructions posted references the 15C, but I assume that the core section of the newer 15G is the same.

Second, with regard to the oil return line, the instructions reference a capped fitting which appears to be on the right side of the block near the oil filter. I'll have to try and find that tonight when I get home... Apart from the cumbersome hose routing involved, is this method acceptable as compared to the more common tap-the-pan method? Is this fitting on the suction side of the pump or does it drain into the pan?

Thanks in advance, all. I never realized there was such a thriving Greddy / DIY community around!

joes first post everyone :P

Joe Perez 08-24-2009 06:47 AM

Huh. That's actually not nearly as bad as I remembered it being. It's almost as though I did some research and read the stickies before making my first post...

Weird.
