Porshe 944 Turbo was a great car. Handled amazing with full stock suspension and the power was good as well. Just a different feeling driving around in a Porsche. N/A versions can be had really cheap if you just want a car you can strip down and race the hell out of. Just make sure you change the timing belt with that interference head. I've seen 3 myself with bent valves. I haven't driven an S2000, E30, Elise or many of the above so I wouldn't know about them. I sure have seen alot in my trips to Road Atlanta for Petit Le Mans though so there must be something good about them.
Cayman S FTW though they're such beautiful cars. Porsche Engineer was telling me how they spent over a month trying to figure out how to form the rear fender with the only "Double Curve" in the automotive industry.

I don't think there are many cars easier than the Miata to work on. Dash comes out in 10 minutes. Trans comes out in 20 minutes. Timing belt takes under an hour. Suspension takes under 2 hours. Not many cars that are that easy.

I wanted an NSX so bad, but I just could not part with my miata. I'm glad about it, because I found my FD shortly after and now I get to keep the miata and its turbo. And now I'm thinking about just keeping my B16 90 civic and putting a LS block in it for next winter. Save big $ on insurance vs a STI. FWD does suck, but burning up my snow tires at 8500rpm sure is fun. And more $ saved for the other two, once the wife finds a job. (2250 lbs, 180whp with LS/Vtec na)(I mean Intregra LS 1.8, not the V8 kind!)
