If you had a free round trip flight to anywhere (almost), where would you go?
Point being, keep it close by, like you mentioned.
As a Florida resident, I took the opportunity to check out Disneyland when I was in Cali. I'm glad I went so I can say I did, but it'll be a disappointment if you've been to DW. Imagine the Magic Kingdom, a little smaller, and older and generally more run down, and that's DL.
Honestly, for just a weekend, I wouldn't want to go anywhere. That's a lot of trouble for a short trip, and I personally would never be able to really wind down and relax in such a short and rushed trip. If this was a leave Friday afternoon and return Sunday night kind of thing, I would want to stay on the east coast. Where that would be, I don't know. Not really anywhere over here I'd like to really visit for a few days. Maybe NYC for some good food and a visit to the WTC site.
You should go to Gainesville, FL.
On such a short time, I really liked Tybee Island, nice white sandy beaches, crsytal clear water. Although try to stay near Tybee, once you go out it is a little ghettoish and terribly poor.
The area does looks like the 2005 movie Skeleton key.

NYS Finger Lakes is a perfect weekend destination. Fly in to Rochester, rent a car and an hour later you are there. Fresh cider making is just starting about now, and each of the lakes has it's own wine tours. Schedule in late Sept through October and the leaves are turning, so it's really something to see.
