Carls Jr is Hardees on the east coast. I had their burger for the first time in years last week. I have to say I was very disappointed with it. I tried a 1/2 pound monster burger with bacon.

Ate at Hardee's a couple times when I was back east. For some reason it didn't seem as good.

I had that new "natural" burger twice last week. I get it with no sauce then add their salsa (which is unfortunately kindof awful most of the time). Delicious.

Hardee's is hit or miss. The one in St Paul is legit. However, stopped on my way though Iowa over Xmas and it was a burnt sandwhich. Really made me rethink stopping there in the future.

I am sure that these gentlemen know a thing or two about cheeseburgers, and I respect their contribution to the genre:

But I'm still craving In-n-Out.

I don't consider In n out "crappy".

And for the uninitiated, In n Out is essentially five guys without 400 lbs of grease. Small, cheap burgers with unslimed vegetables. The fries are also the opposite. Thin, light, will not turn your bag translucent.

Main difference?

If you ate 3 five guys burgers, you'd feel like you were fat and want to vomit and die.

If you ate 3 In n Out burgers, you'd want to do donuts in the parking lot at sunset.

I like the option of A1 dressing on my 5 Guys.

Pretty much every chain (fast food or otherwise) makes a crappy burger and it is sad that we have sunk so low as to crave them. The entire situation reminds me of pizza circa 2009. I just gave up on delivery pizza at that point.

If the patty is like 1/3" thick its garbage. Stay at home, throw a pre-made patty from COSTCO into a George Foreman and dress it up with some fixings. I make better fries in a pan than those tools do with a deep fryer.

I went to a Red Robin and it was basically a Big Mac on a fancy bun with more crap on it including some onion straws and limp bacon. Same for a burger at Buffalo Wild Wings, which was a stupid idea in the first place.

This place called MooYah was passable for a 6 dollar burger. I'll bet they have like 3 locations.

Whataburger is better than most, but its still basically a smashed flat patty cooked in a nuclear blast.

Honestly the last decent burger I did not make myself was in a Fricken Mimi's Café of all places. It had a patty that had not been made in the same machine that cuts out the dough for the buns. Meaning it was 5/8" thick or better. It actually had meat in it that was not the color and taste of cardboard. I swear I may have seen an actual drop of bloody juice from it. I could tell without looking that I was eating cow.

A burger is supposed to taste like beef, not the crap you put on it.

so I wanted to reduce the carb-to-meat ratio... but a Five Guys cheeseburger 3 patties thick is too hard to eat without it self-destructing. I think I did ok.

It was almost spherical when I started.

There is a Five Guys on 3rd ave at 43rd street which I walk past nearly every day.

In the interest of science, I am going to give it a second chance.

Burger only, no fries or soda.

Being a guy from the west coast I miss In-N-Out bad, but Five Guys is the only thing close around here in the south. One day the wife will make it out west and realize what a good fast burger is. Until then The Pharmacy is awesome in Nashville. Not a chain place. Full of hipsters, but really, really, good burgers and etc. Great beer selection that changes and isn't just IPA's that taste like pee. It's the only place to go. . . other than when the wife makes burgers.

I guess it must be regional. When I was living out in Shreveport/Bossier the Whataburgers were intensely disappointing, and Red Robbin was just underwhelming.

The 5 Guys where I live now is reliably pretty tasty. Sometimes it's better than others, but I've never been disappointed.

For fast food, the Hardee's (Carl Jr.'s) near me is actually a decent burger.

The only consistency I've found is that McDonald's is ******* garbage everywhere. Even the few I tried in the UK, Germany, etc were crap. Better than here maybe, but still crap.
