Someone posted lace-less old-man shoes, so the thread drift is pretty official at this point. Therefore I don't feel bad continuing the drift....

500 miles on these before I realized how important shoes were:

Then moved on to these:

Road:

Road/trail combo:

Trail - Dirt, mud, rocks:

Combined 1000 miles or so on the above shoes, during which I learns that the most important item is not the shoes. ITS THE SOCKS.

I'm with you there. I prefer fancy pants 1000 mile boots.
They used to be reasonably priced until they got coopted by hipsters.

+1 on some decent boots.

Lately I have gotten hooked on Clarks desert boots. They are cheap(ish), comfy and last forever. Also readily available at Nordstrom Rack for half the retail price.

I can't imagine wearing heavy, clunky boots all day long.

I've been a road/ trail runner my whole life. A few years ago I was wearing cheap cabelas brand all terrain's. I was getting a lot of knee pain, so I was well advised to go to this running store near me. They measured my feet and brought out 4 pairs of shoes. Told me to try each one on, run down the street and try the next pair on. I ended up buying Mizuno Wave's and have never looked back.

Desert boots are really light and thin soled. I could not wear work boots all day.

I don't usually wear boots, but when I do, I prefer UGG boots.

Do they come with the rolled skinny jeans?

I actually ordered some custom made Allen Edmonds boots. I wanted a specific type of leather and sole. Turns out $350 boots with custom options ($110) can be bought for a net cost of $212 if you time it right and use the right card. Win.

That said, Wingtips aren't played out. They've been around for over a hundred years and popular more or less the whole time.

I could go for a pair of austerity wingtips.

I also want some suede shoes to get the jump on spring. They are some of the best waterproofable shoes out there.

True story: I actually own that exact shoe, but with tassels, in black. I bought them almost 30 years ago, and as I rarely wear them, they still look as new. They are (or at least were) definitely a high quality, well made shoe. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

Just go to Urban Outfitters and ask for the hipster combo pack #3. It comes with a free ironic tee shirt and leather bracelets.
