Default I'm smoking good *ish today.

So lately, I've been thinking...as much as I love my car, I think I want something with a little more prowless. I've been tossing aroudn the idea of a Porsche Boxster. I mean, proces on the older S have come down a lot. It's a damn good handling car and I can stick some serious meats under it (read- SSM class autoX). I figure if I put my car back to near stock and sell it, that could almost cover the initial purchase of the car and all the money left over could go to mods. I need to do more research on boosting and engine management though.

I really love P-cars and love the sound of a flat-six...and I've seen a few nice Boxsters as well. I mean, I could go for a Honda 2000, but frankly, I do not find them appealing in any way whatso ever. Elises are too expensive, A use NSX is still in the $20g range and the MR-S is still expensive for a backword Corolla. This leaves the Boxster to be a viable option...

Oh yeah, and you can get hard tops for like $300-500

I know you'll like the seats...

I'm guessing you read the "Choose your Weapon" article a few issues back in GRM from the way you talk about the choices in SSM. If not, the point was base your choice on numbers, not feelings. You may like Porsches, but how do they really stack up?

I know you've met with some regional success in the Miata and probably want a platform to take it up a notch.

All said I'd considered a good used Boxster a good deal. Good bang for the buck and all, but it's still heavier, number, just with more ***** appeal and power. It will never be a Miata, regardless of size.

I bet boosting one of those things is gonna be some serious $$$ and a pain to work on. Personally, I'd rather have a vette.

A neighbor had one, said he paid $3500 for parts and labor on a water pump, front rotors, and front pads.

I sense no love here...

I do have to give some respect to the 986 / 987. They're heavy little ******* (curb weight appx 2,750 - 2,950) but they do handle well. A couple years ago one one of the SDMC club runs, we had one running with us in the "fast" group, and he didn't have any trouble keeping pace in the twisties.

^^^ what he said.

Seriously, have you researched what it takes to work on this car? A lady that works with me ROUTINELY pays thousands for random services.

I think modding it would be way pricey for what you will end up getting.

The grass only looks greener...

RT/10's of earlier vintage are going reasonable now. They only make 400 hp though. Boxturds are way cooler than a viper.

Gotta admit, that Sportec one looks pretty good...has a Carrera S 3.8 swap and some other stuff to make it a little more respectable.

The Cayman is nicer...but it's still jsut a Boxster coupe to me...seen a few good looking ones. But if I ever go for a P-car, it'll be a 911.
