I assume you mean a foundry, for casting. It has been on my "to do when I get time" list for quite a while now. I intend to make castings for the small air/steam engines I make.

Yup. Brain-fart.

Hmm. None of it really looks suitable.

Doing some light googling, it seems that thematerial which OEMs are using for their intake manifolds is a material made by DuPont called "Nylon 66," which has a melting point of 260°C (500°F) and is typically reinforced with 10-20% chopped glass fiber.

Hey Joe, you know what's frigging awesome about Nylon 66?

Remington Nylon 66 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Remington started building these in 1959, sounds like they were a bit ahead of the curve on that one.

How about a tombstone with two gauge pods above the center vents and angled towards the driver? Or a replacement stock gauge hood with integral gauge pods at the ten and two positions?

Now that would be cool.

Speaking of which, am I imagining that someone, somewhere, had a really nice writeup on how to integrate some specific aftermarket OPG into the stock NB gauge cluster in such a way that it didn't look like crap?

rleete 05-22-2014 02:11 PM

Wasn't that on revlimiter's site?

Look at the badass with the narrowband afr gauge and the apexi SAFC. Pro tuner for sure.

I like the basic concept, but I'd prefer something in a matte black finish that is OEM-like, rather than shiny CF. (Yes, I know- paint exists.)

Not sure. He's got a bunch of gauge-face stuff, but I can't find anything on the OPG.

EO2K 05-22-2014 02:50 PM

Stock NB fake OPG can be rewound and when matched with the appropriate sender thus giving legitimate readings. There are about a dozen guides out there on how to do it. New face with proper graduations and its really not that big a deal.

However, I would be the first in line to buy a NB hood that integrated a pair of aftermarket gauges in the corners. I've looked into DIYing this but I don't have the time or the skills to get something I would deem "acceptable" in the end.

Yeah, I've seen those instructions. Seems time-consuming and imprecise.

AbeFM came pretty close with this one:

If I ever get around to it, I have a VEI Oil Pressure & Oil Temp gauge I'm going to take apart and hack into a OEM cluster. As of today I have 4 NB clusters in the garage and one in the car. I have problems.

I'm not sure if my printer is big enough to make a whole bezel piece. We'd probably have to get clever with making it in parts.

The new pods need to taper towards the back so as to not block the existing gauges, and look more OEM. Sloppy engineering.

Call me a luddite, but for quickly spotting simple trends at a glance, I still prefer an analog dial.

Also, digital gauges will always remind me of an 80s vintage Chrysler.

Can you print Eclipse style vents for NA? I'd pay you for a set!

Can you design them? LOL. I could see this being doable but I don't think I'm experienced enough to design something that complex.
