JB weld for an oil gallery?
 

I need to block off an oil gallery on this scooter case.

The gallery delivers oil under pressure.
Can I use JB weld to block it off at the point I am indicating with the pencil tip?

I am trying to duplicate the "groove" in the second picture.

I have absolutely no experience doing this, and no professional knowledge to back my opinion up, so take this with a grain of salt.

I would say yes. I would think that if you can get the surface clean enough that the JB weld will bond that it should be fine.

I want to believe that JB Weld is an awesome solution to this problem. And nothing in my personal experience suggests that it would not be.

Without more context, what this is, or what it's used for, what the part looks like that goes onto it.

What about welding it? I guess if that surface has to be perfectly flat, and machining isn't an option that might not be the best way. Or if the entire groove needs to be filled or not.

I've had bad luck with JB weld in continuous contact with petroleum products. I would try to find something from loctite or 3m (buy either on amazon pretty cheap) rated for constant contact with gas and oil that will bond to aluminum.

I have a twin cylinder Kohler engine. The back of the case was destroyed by an exploding battery, which sprayed acid all over and ate holes in the case. I wire brushed off the corrosion, and slathered it with JB weld. Sealed up the holes, and has lasted for several years. This is the bottom of the engine (crankcase), so it holds the oil. Hasn't leaked a bit.

I'd say go for it.

If the JB weld comes off, then won't you have JB Weld in the oiling bits?

whats wrong with filling that with silicone and letting it dry? Unlike JB Weld, silicone doesnt have the potential to crack and get tiny sand-like pieces everywhere. I have used JB weld before to plug stuff, but they aren't under pressure, however I have used JB weld on pressurized coolant systems.
