So last night I curbed my first rim. It was rainy as hell outside, and foggy as hell in the car. Totally my fault, took a right turn poorly and didn't pay enough attention to the curb. Ouch. Horrible feeling. Was in a bad mood for atleast 30 minutes til I got some beer in me. Overall though, i've seen much worse and the experience itself seemed way worse than the actual damage. Picture of said rim if you can even see the rash.



Tonight, more bad luck. Its been flooding around here and my best guess is that the soggy ground is causing the road to collapse in places and making G-I-A-N-T potholes. Well, I found one tonight. My girlfriend was with me and said something 2 milliseconds before I hit it on her side. It was the most horrific thing i've ever herd being in a car. I'm going to check under the car tomorrow (sounded like frame contact) for more damage but here is what was immediately visible.



The dent is really hard to see in the pictures as well as the curb rash but nevertheless, going from 100% perfect wheels to this kinda sucks.

I will have to call the place I got these tomorrow and see what replacements are going to run.

So there you have it...had these wheels for 3 years or more with no damage and in the past 2 days I curbed then dented 2 of them.

this is why I drive on stockers. I don't care what they look like and can spraypaint them when in need.

(Seriously - 'tis a shame, but as Hustler alludes to, a DD should have stocks or throw-aways for wet/winter driving...)

Wow, I have nothing to complain about it seems. Thats what I was kinda hoping someone would post though =P

I'm really wishing I had some winter beater wheels now for sure. Looks like I just got a set, though.

i think I'm too afraid to put my et40 nickel 6ULs on the street...but I know they're going to look sooooooooo good that I have to get another set for the track.

why would you replace them? would be cheaper to refinish them professionally. and as everyone says the damage aint that bad lol

My wife made one of my powder coated rims look like that, and swore she did not hit any thing. 20 minutes with a block of wood, and a sledge hammer, and it would hold air again.

One of the guys I know hit a log in his R34 V-Spec and that litterally folded his wheel in. If you know anything about the stock wheels on that car you know that they are not only extremely pricy, but that even if you have the money to purchase a replacement you still probably can't find one to buy.

if it really bothers you it would probably be pretty cheap to get it refinished. there are people who will come to your place and do wheel repair around this area, (well there were when i was in pa, but they need it there...bosnia has better roads than the keystone state) so i'm sure you could find the same around you.

The amazing thing is the bead was never broken! I managed to make the trip home without having to change the tire. (But was happy to have a spare set of rims to swap out until the new set came in...)

While we're on the rim subject, I was reading this thread and it reminded me of an incident a few years back. My friend and I left this nearby bar, it was probably like 1:45AM, he was behind me in his '77 Ford. I turned into my driveway and he went straight. The road in front of my house goes up a hill and over the mountain where the county line changes. I just shut my truck off and got out of it when my cell phone rings. It was my friend...he goes, "yo I just hit a deer and my truck is stuffed into the side of the bank, I can't move it, it's stuck." So I jump back in my truck and drive up there. I pass a big doe laying dead in the road, and then 50 yards ahead was his truck, like he said, stuffed into the side of the bank. It looked like the drivers side front tire was covered in a pile of dirt and the suspension was bent really bad. So I chained my truck to his and pulled in out of the dirtpile, and then was like WTF. The front drivers side wheel was MIA, 35" Mud terrain and all, GONE. The center of his aluminum rim was still bolted to the hub. We looked for an hour for this tire and rim, and nothing. The next day we went back there, still nothing. So how a 35" tire with a 15" aluminum rim can just disappear, is beyond me.
