Stopped for the night, all of the through-cuts are made, I picked up a set of clay-working tools from Michael's and the relief cuts tomorrow or the next day ought to go well. This is the first of my pumpkins I'll be entering in a contest, and the contest is Halloween day. So the pumpkin is out soaking in bleachwater.

I won't let you down Levnubbin ;)

Also, cut the bottom out instead of the top for the lighting. Think of the logistics of trying to get your candle or bulb situated through the top vs. the bottom...

Keep the thing moist, don't let it start to dry out and get spongy. Keep the bacteria from eating it by using bleachwater. This year I even sterilized my tools and the surface before cutting. Needs to last until Saturday!

Drill or carve a "chimney" near the stem out of sight. This'll prevent heat building up inside while on display.

For relief cuts, get a set of "ribbon cutters" from the arts-n-crafts store. This is the first year I'll be using one but I should have been before. I'd been using various chisels and that's a lot more work to have it look smooth.

Damn dude, you have that down to a science.

My my, we have some regular Martha Stuart's here... It's not enough for some of us to drive hair dressers cars and read cat fancy magazine...

This does look like something fun to try. If my neighborhood still had kids that went house to house, and I knew it wouldn't get smashed by the first group of thug ass wanna be kids that walked by, I would probably try some pumpkin carving.

Well, you could put it in the window on the inside. Yeah, I know it's not a cool as on the front steps but you would have to take pains to protect something with that amount of work in it.

Still wouldn't be in the spirit. It sucks that most parents dont allow their kids to go door to door like they used to. For the last 4 or 5 years the only kids we have had have been my little cousins. I remember how much fun it used to be as a kid going door to door getting candy all night. Now kids go to church parking lots and do it out of their cars... its sad, but the sick bastards in this world make it that way.

If you put it up high enough they can't get to it so easily.

Couldn't escape the Garrison command though, they made me take it down.
