Lemans 2010

Interesting race so far. Very aggressive early-on, some people knocked out. Saw a F430 knock out a Lola Radical, which sucked.

Comp. Vette is doing great leading in GT2, a GT40 is leading GT1.

The Frenchies are really kicking ass in the 908s, though S. Bourdais is out. Which also sucks.

I wish S. Pruett was driving rather than talking about driving though. There should be more U.S. drivers in the mix.

Sparetire 06-12-2010 12:56 PM

Speed camera guy got tagged in pit lane, still down right now, but he is awake and moving a bit. A mirror got taken right off of a R15 in the incident too. Ouch.

Sparetire 06-12-2010 02:08 PM

1st 5 spots in GT1 are:

GT
Vette
Vette
Saleen
GT

Sparetire 06-12-2010 02:18 PM

Lead GT catches fire, fills with smoke, and proceeds to pull next to a guard rail right by a fire marshall, which would have been a good move, save that the effing rail kept the driver (who has a broken leg) from opening the door. She got out the pass side, but it sure took a minute. Pretty scary.

I had a bad feeling for the race with 56 cars, and I still do. So far its tried to kill Mansfield (SP?), a journalist, and a GT driver.

Sparetire 06-12-2010 02:19 PM

Respond you lazy fucks!

miata2fast 06-12-2010 04:28 PM

:ugh2:

lordrigamus 06-12-2010 04:55 PM

Yeah, they are streaming Le mans and Canadian GP qualifying is on the Speed Channel right now. Great day for getting your fix.

Rafa 06-12-2010 05:31 PM

Thanks for the streaming link!

Sparetire 06-12-2010 05:36 PM

It is. PLus I am keeping an eye on the F1 aulifying right now, and watched the World Cup. Its just that kind of day :) I am on beer #7 or #8 I think right now, sort of pacing myself.

lordrigamus 06-12-2010 05:40 PM

I'm watching GP qualifying, streaming Le mans, shopping for shocks, surfing porno and playing with my balls.

I iz multitazkin bitchez!

Sparetire 06-12-2010 05:47 PM

A bit of porno will add some character to the somewhat dull sounding diesel P1 cars. Good call!

lordrigamus 06-12-2010 05:52 PM

Shumacher qualified 11th in second round. He seems to be a bit rusty.

lordrigamus 06-12-2010 05:55 PM

The streaming on Speed.com seems to be pretty good, even on my old Toughbook.

turotufas 06-12-2010 05:55 PM

All cars today, almost! Went to the road course. Stripped my whip because it failed yesterday. Going to watch Le Mans at 6 until the fight and Gator baseball too. Gonna watch Liddell get his ass beat. Then me and my boys are doing our all night Le Mans tradition thing.

lordrigamus 06-12-2010 06:10 PM

Lewis Hamilton Takes pole in last qualifying lap and breaks Marc Webber's streak...and now...on to Le Mans.

chicksdigmiatas 06-12-2010 07:03 PM

Damn an aston moved up to 4th in GT1, but still america in the top 3.

Sparetire 06-12-2010 07:10 PM

And we own GT2 right now as well :)

I wish I could watch the fight. I missed Evans/Jackson too. I wont be missing Lesnar CArwin in July though. Now way. That's either going to be sweet or a total blow out. Not much chance of a ho-hum mediocre fight there.

KPLAFIN 06-12-2010 08:21 PM

Anybody know when Speed's stream is gonna start back up?

Sparetire 06-12-2010 09:02 PM

I dont know that it will, IIRC they will cover this thing to the end on the TV now. I wish it was on both, but it probably costs a ton for them to do it.
Edit:
I do know that I bought a 30 pack of Extra Gold last night. I used one can for the badd-ass stew I made, and the rest of the upper half of the box is now empty save for two cans. So I guess that means I am on beer number 12.........and now beer number 11. Go Lemans!

Edit Eidt:

My math makes no sense. I am not drinking my way to less consumption. I am on beer number 13, not 11. Stay tuned. I will update through the night.

I dont think it will start back up, IIRC they will run it on the TV for the rest of the race. WTF do they have to compete, fucking 'Dangerous Drives'? That lamearsed NASCAR talent show? Fuck that.

But it sucks that Kap' cant watch in Europe, despite the fact that he is about 5 thousand miles closer than I am. Speed is getting its footage from the 'World Feed' which sounds like a Unicef wannabeee but is actually some sort of Interpol like media coverage thing. Surely they are airing it all over the continent somehow?

KPLAFIN 06-12-2010 09:54 PM

Fuck this, I'm like a couple hundred miles from the damn race and can't watch it...WTF?

EDIT: 419 miles away.....FML

buffon01 06-12-2010 09:57 PM

It's been going back and forth between the race and the gay shit...it'll be back.

ScottFW 06-12-2010 10:14 PM

This is a good start to the weekend for me. I'm at VIR running the Grand East config, with MazdaDrivers for whom I help staff. So I get free track time when I'm not working.

Went out to dinner at a decent Mexican joint, where we watched Speed channel. Then went to a sports bar, where we talked about all kinds of car shit that gets talked about at track events, while drinking quite a bit and also watching Le Mans. I won't get to watch it all because I have to sleep for tomorrow, but around 2 am eastern time is typically when things get interesting as more cars start to break in interesting ways.

The speed these fuckers carry through the corners is unreal. I might not give my left nut to ride in one, but my left pinky toe could possibly be negotiated. And flying down Mulsanne Straight at night looks like quite a trip. Y'all know that straight used to be much longer and faster, but they added the chicanes about 20 years ago because the turbo cars, which didn't have the power limitations they have now, were pushing them to speeds at which the downforce they ran tended to cause sudden and catastrophic tire failures.

That reminds me, I need to get Le Mans on netflix.

...and spontaneous airborne excursions!

Blaize 06-13-2010 06:14 AM

Well we are out of the running in gt2 completely, no American cars left. Saleen is still holding it down in GT1 but as there are only 3 cars left, and two of them are yanks, that isn't saying much.

Better news is that Audi has kept pace while it has ALL gone wrong for the french. Peugeot was 1st thru 4th in the beginning, and now is only holding on by a thread to
third and 5th. So very good news there, anything is better that the bloody frogs winning again. Next year word is Porsche is going to be back in LMP1.........

The really shitty news is that the Japanese Lamborghini Owners Club is out. We always knew they would be really, but around 2-3 in the morning I was really pulling for them to make it after the gearbox change.

Next year how about the "American Turbo Miata Owners Club"?

Who's in?

KPLAFIN 06-13-2010 07:40 AM

http://www.justin.tv/f1classics

working stream. enjoy.

KPLAFIN 06-13-2010 07:46 AM

Welp, all the Peugot's are out now.

flier129 06-13-2010 08:58 AM

Audi has this in the bag.

I think I signed up for a 1.5 hr lemans enduro race on Forza3 for tonight haha.

I want to make it to one of these races at least once in my lifetime.

Edit: I'd love to see a TDI R8 :)

Sparetire 06-13-2010 09:39 AM

That was quite a blow.

I think it would be cool if they played the Empire theme song from Star Wars when Audi wins in the future. It just fits :)

lordrigamus 06-13-2010 10:06 AM

What a great race. Leader changes galore. I bet half the field dropped out due to failures. Lots of bananannas in the tailpipes last night. I'm kinda bummed that so many cars didn't make it but that's racing at Cirque de Sarthe.

Canadian GP starts at 11 central on local Fox too.

Hamilton/Button went 1/2 again. Good race it was indeed.

thagr81 us 06-14-2010 08:51 AM

Glad to see Audi go 1...2...3. However, I hate that my Audi went boom...

Oscar 06-14-2010 09:34 AM

Went to Le Mans and it was awesome. These cars screaming by at 20 ft. cannot be described. The 'vettes are so fucking loud and sounds angry it's almost frightening :giggle:
Got back late last night. Should have some pics that a friend of mine made up soon.

You sir, suck. How much did the whole thing end up costing you? I'm really trying to make it next year if I'm not deployed by then (which I probably will be) plans to get to any more races this year?

thagr81 us 06-14-2010 10:01 AM

In for answer as well...

Oscar 06-14-2010 10:11 AM

Cost me the gas to get there as the ticket was a b-day gift from a friend. Tickets for general acces are €65. This will give you acces to all the training days at wednesday, thurseday and the race on saturday/sunday. Basically all areas except grandstands and VIP areas. Friday is the pitwalk aswell, which you can do with that very same ticket. Camping was €50 for a 35 square meter pitch for 2 persons, 1 tent and 1 car. You can actually do this quite cheap, given that you are already in europe.

Other expenses are offcourse food/drinks. They are obviously shit expensive on-site, so do you shopping in the supermarket and watch other people pay €7,50 for a footlong hotdog. Choice is yours obviously.

thagr81 us 06-14-2010 03:21 PM

Might do this sometime... Will give me a reason to go to Europe at least.

I've more or less decided to take the $$ out of my beer fund for the next few months to hit the German and Belgian Grand Prix's. Should be pretty fun to say the least.

Sparetire 06-14-2010 07:12 PM

Me and my dad decided last night to go next year. Fly into either Burssels or Amsterdam. Partis is closer, but then you have drive through Paris.

Basically camp there/sleep in the car and just observe the awesomeness.

With all these people talking about it there may be an unofficial MT.net beer drinking contest in France. My pop told me that if you shop around and book early you can probably make it there and back for about 800 bucks. I just got back to employment after 5 months out of work and I can swing that. Though now that I think about it that does put yet another dent in the car budget:vash:

KP, how long are you stationed there?

lordrigamus 06-14-2010 09:43 PM

Now that would be cool. It wouldn't be hard to pick out the MT.netters, just look for the section in the stands where all the people are wearing pink shorts and kitty t-shirts.

Sparetire 06-14-2010 10:36 PM

A giant sign of a cat drinking some obscure beer from the BOD thread and people drunkenly yelling lulz and cursing CR.net and Hyper would be a good tip-off.

lordrigamus 06-14-2010 10:41 PM

Indeed! That and some guy named hustler running around trying to ban the other spectators.

I'm "here" until 15SEP2011, BUUUTT, they're talking about deployment between now and then so I dunno how much I'm going to be around next year. Only time will tell, therefore I only plan a few months out at any given time.

Oscar 06-15-2010 05:12 AM

People flying into amsterdam can probably crash at my place if necessary. Maybe get some big rental cars or an RV and turn Le Mans into a turbo infested sausage fest :giggle:

Sparetire 06-15-2010 08:55 AM

In the words of Hammond from Top Gear, this has the stench of brilliance about it.

This made me laugh... Because it would probably be true.

Sparetire 06-15-2010 07:28 PM

It really would be true. For another thing, the only shirt people on herew would maybe consent to wearing is going to involve a cat in the linlet of 40R anyway.

I should bring this thread back in like 7 months and see where we are at. This could end up being pretty badass. If you are in the area, get to Lemans next year :) You can show us all what beer is worth buying over there.

I think this is a sign that I need to start watching my beer consumption, I've got a rep on miataturbo for being the beer guy apparently,. Not sure what I'll be able to do for you in France as I've yet to make it there and I'm holding out as long as I can (I'm not a fan of the French for whatever reason) but we could all caravan back to Belgium after the race and I got you all covered on the beer thing. Hopefully I'll be around for the race, like I said I'm hitting at least one hopefully two F1 races this season just in case I'm not.
