I recently traded an old motorcycle I had that I planned on someday doing something with, straight up for a newer bike that's ready to roll.
My wife isn't thrilled. We've been together for 11 years and I never legally had a street bike since we've been together.
I want to use it as a work cruiser, she agreed as long as I get a living will.
What experience do you fine gentlemen have in such a topic?
Where should this be done at, how much is it going to cost me, Yada Yada Yada.

A helmet is the most important safety device you can wear on a motorcycle, so yeah, that's mandatory for me. My wife is an ER tech and gets to see what happens when people wreck their bikes all day, so for me to disregard safety equipment would be like telling her I just don't give a **** about her opinion.

Wife and I had living wills, health care proxies, last wills and house ownership transfer (previously only in my name) all done at once. Forms are all pretty standard, and the cost was a lot less than I expected. About half the price was filing the various forms to make everything legal (house title), so it's not that expensive. Any competent lawyer can have it all drawn up in a couple of days.

Do you need jackets or anything? I have a med triumph ace cafe jacket that I was going to sell. It's got armor and a spine plate. I have 2 pairs of sidi boots too.... but I'm like a size 8 so guessing I'll have to find a jr racer for those lol.

In Oklahoma, in the dead of summer it was still "Draggin' Jeans", leather gloves, SIDI boots, leather jacket with a back protector underneath and a helmet. I had a mesh jacket at first, but eventually sold it because I didn't feel as protected in it.

I fractured my tibia and a bone fragment from it severed my ACL, almost exactly 1 year ago, on a YZ 250 in the dirt. Last night I ran 5 miles in 40 minutes. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

My Moms parents were just shy of Jerry Springer material and when the parents died, it was a cluster.
My Dads parents had their stuff together... my parents had very little to do because all the paperwork was suitcased well in advance.

The way my Dad describes it is like this... Grandma has been dead for years, so when Grampaw had his incident ... they arrived at the hospital where his living will instructions were carried out. Death certificate produced. Dad called the lawyer, who personally came to the hospital and handled the paperwork. Then the lawyer executed all the requirements of the estate... literally everything was an automatic process. My parents didn't have to do anything except arrive at the funeral. He already had a block at Fort Rosecrans reserved, along with the VFW gun-salute and the preacher. A pre-hired company did all the processing of the apartment, which included boxing up all personal stuff and taking all the furniture to Goodwill. Then every few days for a couple weeks, a check would arrive as his accounts were closed out. Zero drama.

If your parents are old and you know for a fact that you are going to inherit their disaster of a life... hire a lawyer now. I have several friends locally who's parents died and left them with a gigantic clusterfuck for no reason other than nobody wanted to talk about the fact that old people eventually die. I have some friends who I know-for-a-fact will never achieve full closure or completely heal from their parents deaths because of the immeasurable ***-pain they went through when they died wrt "closing their affairs." One of my buddies inherited like $3million dollars and a couple houses, but the fight between the siblings over the estate destroyed the family. The siblings all have restraining orders against eachother... WTF?

 

Yep, my gait is still a bit off from wrecking at the track. Post-concussion syndrome is also a treat.

 

This is the entire reason why I am pursuing the living will. If I am unable to think for myself and make decisions because a machine is the only reason my heart beats and my lungs cycle oxygen, then it will be on paper about what steps to take.

 

Oh that's the easy scenario. The hard one is where you live but you drool and can't wipe your own *** or feed yourself. I don't want to do that to my wife. If I'm ever in that condition, somebody please take me fishing and come back home without me. My wife deserves better.

As someone who was involved in a street wreck where 4 of us went down, and a good friend went home in a body bag.................if you aren't prepared to accept, seriously, that every time you throw your leg over you may not come home........just not worth it.
