Default LS1 FD Newb Questions

I'm thinking about going this route, however, is this beast just a quarter mile machine?

Is the FD a good car on track days? If not, I'll have to reconsider this.

V8 Rx-7 forums seem more concerned about quarter mile than anything, so that was the gist I got from visiting them.

from what I've heard and read, the fd platform is very capable...I know stock they pull good numbers on the skidpad.

Talk to Silicone Boy over on m.net. He has an LS6 FD. He's building an LS7 Miata right now.

Oh, and if you see the yellow Hummer H3 in the pics, it's got an LS2 in it.

They can rape, when they're running that is. My dad's track toy is a '93 or '94 (I forget which) with a ported rotary, big single turbo running a bunch of boost, puts down about 500 whp. He runs around 2:05 at VIR on fresh rubber. For reference, the SM lap record is a 2:18 and I'm pretty sure the AIX record is in the low 2:10s.

The 3rd gen RX-7 is one of the sexiest cars ever made IMO, and I always thought it was a bastardization to put a V8 in one. However, seeing how much down time dad's car has due to the inevitable reliability issues with a flogged rotary, I see why people do the conversion. There was a V8 FD at one of the HPDEs I did this summer and the owner said he had been really happy with it. IDK what a LSX weighs compared to a rotary plus turbo bits, but as long as the balance of the car isn't thrown off too much I'd think it should still be a very capable road course car.

ive driven fd with ls1 and it was a blast! it does not upset weight distribution much and car feels very solid under hard cornering (with proper suspension of course!) but that same rx7 that i drove literally RIPPED subframe and tranny mounts couple of weeks after the swap (~450whp/420ish tqe).

I've heard that they are absolutely fantastic on every front.

Better looking than a Miata...easier to pick up tang with...great chassis for racing and street use.

They are just rarer conversions, and more expensive.

I can't think of another car I would prefer to build...if I had enough to do so. Problem is you can nearly finish an LS1 Miata for what a decent FD base runs.
