Well as some may know from my other, really depressing thread about my fiance of 7 years wanting to separate
, I am moving out and taking all my **** with me. I found a nice little duplex that HAS a garage, no more apartment parking lots! Anyways, obviously I will be taking the Miata back that she is driving. It's an 01 auto with about 80k. I bought it for 6500 about 7 or so months ago. Since then it's been in a small accident involving a rear bumper replacement. Originally, I was thinking about selling it and taking my loses...but now I'm really considering otherwise.
What about using it as my daily driver. I do about 80 miles or so a day with my commute and now that I'm working on my turbo project for my 97 I really didn't want to stack those miles on it. Rollbars, solid motor mounts, 6 puck clutches, and etc. make daily driving a little less comfortable than I would like.
Since turning 21 and starting the university(no more community college bitches!!!), my full coverage went down to about $115 a month. If I was to full coverage cover the 01, it would be around $135...and basic weekend insurance for the 97 would be about $40. Obviously both would be even cheaper if I paid in advance.
It's just an idea. I put 6500 in this car and I'm willing to bet it I would lose a couple thousand if I sold it.

I thought I could daily drive my miata with a greddy kit and some stiff suspension, I ended up buy an '08 lancer cause it was just a little bit too much for my 50 mile commute
Sounds like a valid idea.
I daily drove various miatas for almost a decade. It can be done. Just find a new GF with an F-150 or subaru outback to haul big **** around in and you're set.

Can't answer your DD question, but I'm trying to figure out how you had a fiance for 7 years if you are 21.
Actually, I DD my 99 for trips to see customers, oftentimes 500 miles a day, so it will do the job.

The Miata has been my DD for nearly five years now. Presently, it's my only vehicle, though for a large portion of that time I also had a motorcycle, for those days when it was just too pleasant outside to be cooped up behind a bunch of glass and sheet metal.
I see no issues whatsoever with keeping both Miatae and using the auto NB as the DD.

I daily my NB for the time being. It seems my '90 has become a project car...much to the dismay of my bank account.
The NB cars make great DD for the same reasons that so many non-enthusiasts tend to like 'em more than NAs: more composed, more quiet, blah blah blah.
Could you find something a bit more suitable for daily use (like with a trunk, perhaps)? Sure, easily...and just using the $$ from selling the auto car, even if you do take a hit on the selling price. I'd stick with the NB because it's more fun than, say, an Olds Cutlass or whatever is on craigslist this week.

My miata is my project car, but also gets to be the daily for winter time. Then the Mazdaspeed 3 gets to be the daily durning the summer because the A/C is the poop. I really just trade back and forth so I don't get bored with either of them..
Daily it! I've been DD my miata for three years, rain or shine. It was -16F outside all day today and it still ran great (courtesy of a cardboard + duct tape cover over the mouth). My only complaint is that it's too noisy on the highway to talk on a cell phone, but other than that, I love driving it year round. Used to drive 80mi a day.
