I am familiar with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) report from which that number is derived. They do count firearms deaths from all causes including suicide in that number, but if you read in the fine print they also count EVERYTHING in (section Y35) the following classification regarding law enforcement intervention regardless of what instrument actually caused death:
