Miata owners getting called FAG?
So enlighten me here fellas... I've yet to drive a miata, although I've owned mine since July '08.
Is it REALLY that bad? I was reading in the "ever have a miata try to race you" thread about how some of you have had people yell "FAG!" at you while driving your miata's. Just got me wondering if I should wear a mask while driving the car or possibly vinyl the sides "I'M NOT GAY" in a contrasting color. |
I have yet to have this problem. And I have driven through S.F. multiple times, lived in the Bay Area, and in Monterey County. Been owning Miatas for 13 years. :D
|
It doesnt happen to me all that often, I've had my car for four years and probably only had it happen 3 or 4 times.
Usually by the needle dicks in their huge trucks with balls hanging from the hitch. |
If you don't have anything to worry about......Why worry?
It's usually always the ones who are borderline themselves and really have no clue about the "performance" aspect of these little cars anyway. |
My friends make fun of me about it, but I've never had a stranger say anything negative. In fact, I get complements all the time...
|
I never get anyone revving at me or wanting to race. Guess the car isn't stealthy enough?
As far as the ghey references, it's mostly ribbing from friends or family. Never strangers. My wife says I have a Me-Oughta. Me-oughta get a real car. I just tell my friends when they rib me about driving a chick car or gay car, it was this or cross dressing and I chose the car. If I ever get tired of it I just tell them to meet me at the track. Heck I enjoy driving a VERY capable car that people don't respect. Sometimes I look at Z4's and Boxsters and think maybe I should have something more respectable for a guy my age but I really don't want to take a step backwards in performance! Also like the idea that if something bad happens I can buy another $3000 car and reuse my go-fast parts on it. That's about the same price as a dealership brake job and tune on those other cars! |

I use to get that all the time in my '90 Miata when I bought it:
Attachment 205543 The thing was so gay that I wouldn't even try to argue, I'd just give a limp wrist waive and bat my eyelashes. I had it happen probably 4-5 times in a 6 month period. Since it's boosted, stripped, LOUD, has a rollbar, and race harness nobody has said anything. I just get a lot of odd looks. I've been dailying my stock 10AE for almost a year now and haven't gotten yelled at yet. I think it just depends on the miata. Some of them appear significantly more gay than others. And like someone else said, when comments do come, it's always from some douche in a huge truck. |
It takes a real man to prance around in a Miata!!!

I've had kids in school buses throw pens and shit at me while calling me a fag. I get made fun of by my friends occasionally. Car was pretty gay though. No hardtop, gay wheels, no torboz. That's changed though with all the goodies. I guess the lesson is you shouldn't drive it stock unless you're an old man or a woman.

Once you lower your car, it changes the way people percieve it.
Anyway I never get that. I'm 5'9" and about 190 lbs though. |
Never had it happen to me in the year and a half that I owned one.
|
Never happened, coming up on 2.5 years of ownership.
|
Never happened...but usually if the top is down, my tranny tunnel holster mount is also visible from jacked up truck height...

Any pics?
My grandpa turned his flip-down style ashtray into a pretty nice "clip in" holster. I wish I had picks of that: clean OEM look when he's not in the car...perfect access and security when driving. |
one guy one time during the first year I owned mine called it a girl car. after that, never again. that's 8 years.

Never took any...but will when I get a chance if you're considering the same. I just screwed a cheapy nylon holster I had grabbed before finding a REALLY good concealed carry one to the plastic surround. It's not pretty...but it works. Once I started to look for race seats I knew I'd need somewhere to set it when in car, and thought I might as well make it a useful mount.

an angry bicyclist once said "that's a chick car you know" and i said "yah my girl loves it" which is true..
