I just found out (through some searching) that there is an aftermarket for Power Wheels. Now my daughter(s) must have (at least) one so that I may tinker. <G> I was thinking about getting a sweet R/C buggy for myself but this is actually less expensive and I'll get just as much enjoyment out of seeing the kid having fun.

Here's a modded 24-volt example against another one (also modded but specs not listed for Lightning McQueen). Street race at 1:07!

 

That's pretty bad ***. I wish I had that as a kid. I just had a broke ***, slow jeep of some kind.

 

In for results. Are any of them made with rubber wheels?

 

Not that I've seen yet. The Escalade (and judging by the comments, the Lightning McQueen too) have their batteries under the "hood". Big front weight bias there, it seems. I wonder if the batteries can go under the seat or behind the kid. Might help.

Edit - I read the comments wrong. McQueen was going light in front, not spinning. Opposite problem from the Escalade.

I think plastic wheels are more fun. It's not fast enough to be fun with rubber wheels.

 

I learned that you can get "traction bands" to increase traction on pavement, but like NA6C said, might decrease the fun quotient.

On another note, modifiedpowerwheels.com sucks at compiling a FAQ. If it were run by mt.net folk there would be a sane, easy-to-read thread beginning at which models to purchase and going through electric vehicle theory and from there on to which parts to upgrade first and where to buy them. Bah.

those houses are huge, look at the three car garage (well one two car door and a one car door; bigger inside) at :35 minute mark in the backround. it that is a normal neighborhood to you then someone was born with a silver spoon...

Powerbands are big rubber bands to fit over the wheels for traction. They aren't cheap. Better to get some silicone rubber from McMaster-Carr and make your own. They reduce slipage on slopes, but these things don't quite have the power to spin the wheels unless you mod them anyway.

 

I want to see one with a brushless motor setup.

I am working on my Son's.. I simply put a DeWalt 18v battery in place of the 6volt. Well, it was alot faster. It has shredded the the plastic gears. Now I need a new bigger model so i can get him up int to he 24v area.. I want him to spin tire at will...
