I've been following this thread religiously and have high expectations. I've bought a few previous BLF Special Edition lights that are in some way commissioned by the members. This one is going beyond anything that's been done before with respect to the design and quality control. This model of light is called an SRK-type (named after the SkyRay King series and clones). SRK clones never live up to expectations because China. This light will hold 4x18650 batteries, but will be able to run even if just one is installed... and makes in the neighborhood of 6000lm with the current favorite Samsung 30Q batteries.
The light is just a big bigger than a can of soda, and the pricepoint for this special edition has always been $40. Geek away my friends.
I got this turd the other day. At 12 bucks for two lights,4 no na me 18650's, and two chargers. I had to buy some and find out.
They were advertising a 7W led but no description of the lens or reflector.
RESULTS-
The led looks like it has some old style lens, emits light in probably 179.9°. The reflector is a semi-polished aluminum washer in a black anodized tube. Nice. The adjustable focus is some lame sliding assembly. If it got sand on it, it would probably jam up. Bottom line- for 6 bucks delivered, it's pretty sweet. Its bright for a single LED. Dual battery should be bright for a couple hours.
I bought this headlamp a while ago. It is amazing. Lights up most of my backyard (about an acre) and is a godsend when working under a car, or doing anything at night.

That one is huge. I thought the free non-let HF one I got was too big. I think I'm going to make a simple LED on a CR2032 on the gobro headband I'll never use. That'll be perfect for working under the dash or car.
I have two of the blf edition lights thanks to samnavy. I now daily the olight above. So small, I dont even know it is there. Magnetic tailcap charging ability, which means nearly endless lumens with a car charger. Reversed clip so that you can attach it to the bill of a hat for handsfree headlamp use. Has an incredible 900 lumen max mode (limited time) for surgery.

In for more stuff to burn money on. I've lurked around candlepower and blf on occasion, although it's been a while. I've had a few single AA lights and like the form factor. I've had a hankering to try a 18650 light for a while. I've got a charger that should be up to the task. Might pull the trigger on one of those samnavy linked.
It uses 18650 batteries which are not cheap but last quite a long time. This flashlight is the only one you need to light up the entire trail at night. It is incredibly bright. I walk my dogs at night on trails and this thing has never failed.

I've been a fan of the Cree XML-T6 for years. I'm ready for a new one, i wonder if this is worth the price compared to some of the cheaper T6 led units.
I managed to acquire a few 10a 3800mah 18650's on the work budget. They last long enough to do what you need to do, but i'm not sure they're very nice to the diodes.
I EDC an EagleTac D25LC2. It uses an 18650 as well. My favorite part is how sturdy the belt clip is. That's always the weak point for me, when I EDC at work.
Added two more to my collection. Left to right: blf edition 18650, olight s1a baton, olight s1r baton turbo, and olight i3e eos. The s1a and i3e are new. The s1a was on an easter sale at battery junction. It will run off of one AA alkaline, lithium or nimh and also 14500 lithium ion with the highest output on the later. The i3e was an impulse buy to get me over the $50 hump and free shipping. It is impressive at 120 lumen on one AAA alkaline or nimh.
Samnavy, what do you think of the BLF GT "Giga Thrower"? It looks like it'd be great for navigating back to shore after night fishing.
I've been on the list for that since the beginning... already sent in my down-payment... should be just as impressive for what it does as the Q8.
I'll grab all my lights later and take a pic. I'm pretty set for capability, but it's the WOW factor that really gets me to buy. My EagleTac that's smaller than a chapstick and does 700lmn direct drive is a prime example. Plus, I'm a sucker for DIY stuff... and a forum going directly to a retailer with a set of specs and making it happen is pretty cool... that's why I love all the BLF Special Edition lights. The guys who work to make it happen don't settle for a marginal product. The hundreds of pages in the Q8 thread that go over every detail of the light... what was rejected and what the would/wouldn't settle for in the final design is commendable. These lights are built an order of magnitude above their $40 pricepoint for the group buy.
Ok spoon-feed question time. I need a pocket flashlight. Lots of lumens, doesn't have to be tiny (my pockets are big) maybe like thick sharpie sized? 18650 battery. What do the geeks suggest? If I can buy it on Amazon that's even better.
