This may be an impossible newb question. Anyone have a tire reccommendation for 50/50 loose sand, and highway, and is extremely resistant to cactus punctures? I'd like to go play out in the arroyos and dual tracks through the cactus forrests on my heavy dual sport. I don't need to go fast in the sand, but not get stuck. I need to ride some highway without getting run over to get to the sand.

I wasn't trying to make a case for keeping your current bike. I just wanted you to know that, in general, 25k miles isn't a lot for a well-maintained bike, and you shouldn't necessarily balk at "higher" mileage of a potential purchased based on the condition of your old one.
If I don't put the miles on the bike, I don't know what kind of miles they are. Especially if the bike is 10+ years old. Like you said, bikes that sit their entire life and don't get rode have the most problem.
It all depends on what I find.

Exactly this. If it has 10k miles and looks clean, all you know is that it's sat a lot, and it's quite possible that all kinds of issues might rear their heads once you start riding it. If it has 30k miles and looks clean and well-maintained, chances are, it was owned by someone who used and maintained it. Not only that, the odometer reading will result in a lower price.

94 Yamaha XV535, bought it broken so we got it real cheap. But the Wife says Im not allowed to mess with it until I put my car back together.
Edit: just found out the single carb kit installed on the bike is worth more than what I paid for the whole thing.

My 2005 Ninja 500r.
Much ghey, per the Monster swigging Bro population, just like a Miata.
When I'm not driving my R53 or '86 4Runner, I'm out on this, trying to avoid being killed by some drooler safely encased in 2 tons of 'MURICA SUV, who's idea of multitasking is texting her "bitches" about how the "universe is telling her" it just wasn't meant to be with Ray-Ray, all while simultaneously shoving Mike & Ikes in her fat mouth and playing pocket DJ to the 50 Shades of Gray audio book, conveniently drowning out the cries for attention from her disobedient and soiled demon spawn.

Thanks!
Being pretty new to it all, it's not an issue I have, it's more an issue I don't want to have. Do both of those combos work well in the sugar sand?

Taking my endorsement test on Saturday then getting this thing titled.

I also have a 1980 Suzuki SP400 that I really love. It needs a new carb though I think. Fuel continues to flow out of the overflow tube even after replacing the float bowl.

I want both bikes titled and street legal so my gf and I can ride to the trails. When we have to load the bikes up it just becomes a chore. When we can hop on and ride there its no issue.

nothing that works well in the sand is going to be street able, or even work well on the trails. i ride a lot of sand, and it plays no part in my tire choices. the performance difference in sand between a full on soft terrain or sand tire(not paddle) and IT or hard pack tire is quite small, there just not much that can be done with the tire design to improve sand performance without going to a full paddle. but the performance difference between a soft terrain and a hard terrrain knobby on every other surface is huge.
if you are having trouble with sand, you arnt going fast enough. sand is all about that throttle.
so focus on tire performance while on the trails and street and deal with the sand like a man with throttle.

that might be the only place where a turboed 4 stroke would be fun, like at the dunes or something. it would just be a handful on the trails, getting on boost would suck. think 125 powerband with 650 power. re-live the maico 400? *** that.
having said that, have you ever ridden a modern 450R aidan?
