I have a scorpion helmet I like it but I've only had it a month or two now so well see how it holds up. For bluetooth I have a scala q1. Got it for something like 50% off when the local honda dealer closed. The only problem I've had with it is sometimes the contacts between the unit and the base will loose connection and have to be cleaned. (mostly just after it rains it's not sealed and water get in there) Sound quality is ok but I have to slow down to under 50 to hear someone when I answer a phone call. I think that's mostly due to the amount of wind noise in my helmet though. Battery last about 5 hrs when I'm constantly playing music.

He didn't oversell the bike, it's very much like new. Super happy with it.

Hopefully doing some helmet shopping this eve if the places stay open late enough. Wore my racequip home, lots of wind noise, not quite tight enough... not a motorcycle helmet, ha.

z31maniac 07-15-2016 08:41 PM

The only real difference between a car and motorcycle helment is that moto helmets don't have to fire rated.

turbofan 07-15-2016 08:53 PM

That might be the only strictly safety difference, but certainly not the only practical difference. Since my car helmet doesn't have to deal with direct wind, I have it fit a little looser for comfort. It's also really bulky, and the venting system is very different. It also ROARS with wind noise, at least as bad as any $100 KBC POS.

I got a good laugh...

Got a helmet. Tried on the Arais, but the Shoei just fit my head better. Also bought an Alpinestarts cloth jacket, but that might have been a mistake -- it's EXTREMELY well vented, and, well... it's not very hot here.

Got some gloves, forgot the brand, they don't fit well, going to exchange them.

SO, I'm basically set anyway! Thanks again for the input guys. Time to start catching up on the miles the PO didn't ride :P

turbofan 07-26-2016 12:29 AM

Been having a LOT of fun on the bike. I've put 600 miles on it total since I got it 10 days ago. Really enjoying it. Seat sucks though. I still find myself in awe of this engine, and I still find myself kinda wishing for a Buell. WTF is wrong with me?

Pic dump. Got some gear for my girlfriend:

Took a ride out to Astoria today. There is an incredible road between here and Astoria, and some others you can goof around on as well. Really had a great time, and the view at the end was excellent.

A little late to the party. My brother's helmet after his crash. Would definitely get an Arai after handling this one.

Just returned from a little trip on the bike... Back in April, we moved my elderly parents from CA to WI, where my sister lives. My mom was having a hard time taking care of my dad, and it was time for them to move into an assisted living community. We chose a brand new place just a couple of miles from my sister's house, and it's worked out very well as all the grandkids and great grandkids are local. Just a much longer trip for me to visit from AZ. Things have been going very well with my mom, but my dad (who will be 91 next month) has spent a lot of time in the hospital and a rehab center, so I wanted to visit before the weather gets shitty.

I hadn't taken a decent bike trip in a couple of years, so off I went....

Utah is awesome...

Those were both taken along 128 Northeast of Moab on the Colorado River.

Colorado is also awesome, except when construction...

Attachment 183647

Got a warning from a CO State Trooper for 74 in a 65...

Wyoming is also awesome...

South Dakota, once East of the Black Hills, is not so awesome...

At least the Interstate speed limit is 80.

Spent 3 days riding up, 4 days there and had a great time visiting with family. On the way back, my brother in law decided to ride with me on his FJR. We hadn't had a road trip together in a decade, and the last time we rode together was for a Keith Code school at Laguna Seca in 2007. It's his fault I ride motorcycles in the first place, so it was nice to get out on the road again. He rode the three days back to AZ with me and continued on to CA to visit family there.

Overall, a great trip. A little over 3700 miles in 6 days of riding. If you've never ridden in the Rocky Mountain states, you really owe it to yourself to get out there sometime. The FJ-09 performed perfectly, and got great gas mileage except for crossing SD at 85mph with a 20mph headwind. :p It really is the best all-round bike I think I've owned. Light, powerful, handles great, tours like a boss.

Shot a little video tonight. I know, it's kinda boring, but the sound of the bike is fun. It's crazy how this thing accelerates. Much fun. Wait for the pass on the van, lol. There's also a little bitty wheelie at the end. This bike likes those.

The music just comes from the 10C -- it overlays the video with whatever music I'm listening to at the time.

turbofan 08-31-2016 08:16 PM

Enjoyed a fun ride out to the coast last Monday. Rode with a buddy who rides a 'Busa. He's a little crazy.

We did have a lot of fun though. Took quite a few videos but this is probably the best one. It'll probably be editing for a while, should be about 12 minutes long once the edits are finished.

I've been dailying this all summer. At first it was like, meh, but then i fell in love. Awesome bike for the dirt roads and other rural decrepit roads around here.

Been a while since I posted up here... Had one of those "too good to be true" deals pop up this time last year.. heres the back story because I'm bored.

My first bike was a 1994 CBR600 F2. Bought it cheap essentially wrecked and junk from a cosmetic standpoint, but it ran like a champ and the frame was straight
Attachment 182298

Ended up completely re-furbishing the bike. Koso DB02R gauge unit, New clip-on's and grips, MT03 headlight with custom budget brackets, 06 R6 Tail Swap, custom belly pan from OEM fairings, custom shorty D&D slip-on, new PP3 tires, -1/+2 Vortex Sprockets. After all this i was in the bike about $1800 total which I didnt think was bad. Bike had about 35k on it at this point.

Over last winter I decided to put the F2 up for sale for the silly price of $2500 to see if I could find any idiots for the "everything has a price" sale point. Realistically it was a $1500 bike on a good day. Lone behold I found just the guy that traded me this beauty for the F2 with only $500 on my end to kick.

2004 CBR600RR with 11k miles. 2Bros black carbon slip on, Integrated sequential tail light, Fender Eliminator, Front LED turn signals, New grips. Only maintenance items it needed were fork seals otherwise it ran like a top. It was tipped over once so the plastics arent perfect, but my F2 was far from perfect so I didnt care. A lighter full fairing EFI sport bike was an awesome jump up.

Anyways, did a 2600 mile road trip in 5 days this summer which was the pinnacle of my trips. central wisconsin to the tail of the dragon and then hugged the eastern coast states through the mountains all the way up to the back of the dragon then meandered our way back to wisconsin. Absolutely great roads. I call it my "super sport tour'er" now. A few pics from the tail

Now I'm spending my time patiently planning this years road trips.. just installed a battery tender with USB adapter to work in conjunction with my RAM triple stem phone mount. I should be able to charge my phone and have GPS on the fly now which will be great. Also working on upgrading the headlights to a set of LED projectors from a 2015 Corolla. Tons of work to get them to fit, but should look great when done

Been probably years since I posted in here.
Rode dirtbikes since I was like 11, had a few street bikes, Ducati Monster 750, Ducati 916 Mono...sold everything many years ago. Past few years been acquiring random old bikes just because. I have a '78 Triumph Bonneville that I did a hardtail conversion on, still an unfinished project.
Over the summer I picked up this guy:
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3f70b7dda3.jpg

1974 Triumph Trident frame, Bonneville 750 motor with tiger head single carb, 5 speed RIGHT HAND SHIFT gearbox. I dig the color and paint scheme, but it's such a boring bike. I want to comvert it to this route, as I've always loved the Thruxton.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7ac6e9013d.jpg

However, I was at the triumph dealer the other day just browsing to get ideas, and this just showed up. They call it a "Street Cup". It's a 900cc liquid cooled Twin, fuel injected...simply beautiful.

I just saw this, but I'm probably into bikes more than my Miata. I buy and sell a lot of bikes so I'm not all that brand loyal. My favorite bikes I've owned are a Suzuki Vstrom 1000, Honda Magna 750 and Yamaha FZ1. I do have a soft spot for old sohc Hondas tough as I've owned and sold many of those.

working on swapping in 2015 LED Toyota Corolla projectors into my CBR's headlight housings. These is proving to be challenging, but do-able I feel!
