Just saw this in the paper. So a few years back the NAACP decided that Nicholls' Confederate colonel mascot was "racially insensitive". So what do they do? They eliminate the mascot altogether. Many years later, this is what they come up with. I couldn't have written this any more hilariously. The committee based solution to the racially insensitive mascot is a mix between Bison from Street Fighter and a **** tank commander. Way to go NSU.

The old mascot was named Tillou, after the middle name of the university's founder, Francis T. Nicholls. The founder was, by the way, a brigadier general in the Confederate army. I'm not one of those "Southern PRIDE!" nutjobs, but I don't have a problem with a Confederate looking mascot representing a southern school that had Confederate roots.

I wasn't at the university at the time. I graduated the year the whole Tillou debate first began. If I had to guess, knowing southern Louisiana students, I'd say the majority were completely serious.

Btw, from what I can tell, the whole thing started because ONE student complained to the NAACP. ONE.
