"my life got flipped turned upside down" in other words, good news and bad news

I did it guys! I'm not such a loser after all :loser: ive been away from miata turbo for quite some time now as many may have noticed. well, not having daily access to a computer and my miata's motor been blown for a while hasn't exactly helped that out either.

Anyway, during the past couple months i've been doing something many of you may have not expected, seeing how i had been acting in my previous posts, quoting Hustler "a little ------" whatever. i probably have thrown the idea around a couple times in a couple posts, not really discussing it with anybody but my girlfriend. but im delighted to share with you this life changing news - - - - - - >

IM NOW IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:idea::idea::idea::fawk::fawk::fawk::friday: :friday::drama::beer::beer::winner::winner:

i will be shipping off 20100920 for bootcamp!! i'm going to be working as an Air traffic controller on CVN 73 aka USS George Washington...in japan nontheless! the infamous JDM at my fingertips :giggle:

im really debating wether or not i should buy a house and set up shop over there (debating on making a jdm part business.) they will fully cover any house (not too big, must be a good deal,) that i may be interested in. that way i can marry my girlfriend and we can start a fresh new life over there. i wont live there forever, i'll return after a couple of years.

im planning on going back to automotive school after my first four years in the navy, either that or i may consider working in the FBI for a career. i have had no police record, and i got into the navy, so i should be set :)

i quit smoking weed, now on my 4th month smoke free ! i had been smoking heavily prior, about 5-6 times a week in college. (but i did pick up a habit along the way im gonna have to stop sooner or later, anyone heard of snus?)

i passed the asvab with a very decent score of 85, missing the nuclear program by 5 points which was a bummer. i wouldve been sitting on a fat bonus check before i get into bootcamp :( but i did manage to pass the drug test, the physical test, and i foudn out i have amazing vision, but my depth perception may be slightly off kilter, i did pass though. weird.

discuss!

p.s. the bad news was my motor is blown if you didnt see it in that gigantic post.

mgeoffriau 03-01-2010 11:50 AM

Google just passed the FBI information about your admitted drug use.

Bond 03-01-2010 11:55 AM

I went to a marine recruiting office, they asked if I have ever smoked weed, of course, yes. They didn't seem to care though...they still wanted me to sign their papers.

And snus is good for you.

shuiend 03-01-2010 11:56 AM

Shoot SamNavy a PM if you have questions about the Navy. I believe he is on a boat right now. Honestly if I was in your shoes I would probably stick out the 20 years in the navy to get the retirement benefits. After that you should be able to move into a nice civilian job that pays bank.

I imagine that you'll still get to do some sucking in the near future.

Now you're a "total retard" in addition to failing at life.

Best wishes though, I hope everything works out and you become a man for the first time in your life. One day you'll look back on the Hustler Oracle and acknowledge that its changed your life, but please don't bother me because I'll be mid coitus with supermodels and have better things to do than hear your praise for my masculinity and fortuity.

dammit! and i thought google and i were best friends. google, suck my dick :jerkit:

and btw you get retirement benefits even after 8 years in navy! half of what you make. so after 8 years, making roughly 3000 every two weeks: 1500 every two weeks for the retirement plan. not bad at all. plus im gonna be working longer than 8 years, maybe another 4. thats roughly 4500-5000 every two.

you remind me of that doctor on scrubs that always busts everyones balls. he actually cracks me up

and thanks for the *kind* words sir.

dont ask my why i watch that show. theres no extended cable in my dickhead fathers house and it was much better than watching HSN, p90x for the fifteenth time, and the spanish channel where i seem to only understand every 5th word of their conversations even after 7 years of spanish.

But its funny stuff!!

Those Spanish sitcom shows really suck... nothing funny about them..

KPLAFIN 03-01-2010 12:53 PM

Aww shit, you fell for the "pick your first duty station" scam huh? I love the military but you can pretty much forget anything they "promised" you that you mentioned in your original post. Are you married? If not you won't be getting shit for a check or living anywhere other than a freakin 6X2X2 hole in a boat.

Have fun. How long did you sign up for if that wasn't already mentioned (I admit I haven't read most of this thread)

EDIT: Just read the "I'll marry my GF and they'll cover my house" thing, good luck with that, I don't recommend getting married for a while, I've seen plenty of people who got married right before leaving for basic or even while in AIT (Army version of whatever they call your job training after basic) and got royally fucked over by her/the Army/or both.

mgeoffriau 03-01-2010 01:09 PM

Hot bunking FTW.

NA6C-Guy 03-01-2010 01:12 PM

Navy might be in my future, once I am done with school, round three, in ~1.5 years. I tried for the Airforce last year but because of no HS diploma and only a GED, they didn't want me until I had college education. I think the Navy better suits my needs, even though I am in an Airforce family.

Good luck to you. I've been keeping up with a freinds brother that just went to basic about 3 weeks ago, he will be serving on a nuclear sub, he apprently scored high on the ASVAB and gets all kind of big bonuses for his position and gets to skip some ranks.

buffon01 03-01-2010 01:12 PM

If I was going to live under water w/o seeing a vag or sunlight for 6 months at a time, you bet your ass I'm getting a big fucking bonus and hopping up the ranks quick.

kotomile 03-01-2010 01:45 PM

He'd have to be an E9 just to clear 3k/ 2 weeks gross, not counting BAS, BAH or incentive pays.

Good on you for raising your right hand, OP, you just need to get some ofyour info straight before you make decisions based on the way you think the military works. The 8 year retirement thing, for one, sounds completely bogus. You have to be in the Army for 20 years to pull half.

turotufas 03-01-2010 01:52 PM

I know people (friends of my brother) that took your route and are now making 100k in places like Germany and Dubai.

Air traffic controller, I hear thats a high stress job. Good luck man.

Pen2_the_penguin 03-01-2010 02:11 PM

Air Traffic Controller, I dont know about navy, but here in the USAF its a high suicide risk. They get mental checks routinely. Good luck man, and dont break in basic.

If this makes you feel any better, the day you are leaving for basic (20100920) is the day after I get out of the Air Force.

So while ur at basic crying ur eyes out, i'll be free. :bowrofl:

i dont think you checked the right rank. i would be over 3 years at e6 pay grad then two years e7 pay grade by the time i finish my first 8 years. which is around what i said it would be.

then i will be going up to e8 Cheif petty officer Eli Jean. mad bank son :fawk:

i think you checked e1 to come up with less than half even though im already at e3, which is in my contract.the location is in my contract as well. and if my spouse doesnt get to come along then fuck it she can be a stay at home mom. i dont exactly mind.

and ive heard that ac's have a high suicide rate. i know the job responsibilities are going to be hard. ive been through some really challenging times in my life and i deff. could handle this. shit if i really dont like it ill go to officer schooling and become a warrant officer. check the w1 pay grade after 4 years

oh, did i forget the resignin bonuses? ill be pretty much set.

Nope, I love the military, plannign on being in for 20+, getting my commission through West Point (leaving Germany for NY in late June.) I just hate the lies recruiters spit out, I knew what I was getting myself into and didn't take any of the crap from them, told me to give it to me straight and not BS me because they didn't need to sell me the military, I wanted in.

Thanks for playing though fucker. :fawk:

8 years minimum for the navy these days. like you i wanted in right when i got there. i told them that and this dudes really pushing for me, like everything i thought would be a concern he told me if it doesnt concern your health as of now its really not important. he signed me up for pretty much every advancement option he could think of. he was really impressed with my asvab score. lol i thought i could do better

wether i say i smoked weed or not isnt a problem. theres no way they will find out unless i tell them, or somebody that will tell somebody. as of right now, that part of my life is nonexistent... except maybe in the internets. (reitterating the fact that google can suck my dick)

E7 in 8 years? possible, but very very unlikely, especially not in a job like Air Traffic Control. I wish you luck though, I hope you enjoy the Military as much as I do, you just need to start thinking more realistically or you're going to be one of the guys that hates it and ends up going AWOL.

well good for you man, I hope your career is full of ass and name taking! I got 4 more years and I am singing up again!

As for you OP, KP is right about the recruiters though, they make perfect door to door sales men, because they act friendly as all hell. You do realize it not just years you are in for promotion, but what you qualify for and training standards you have to keep up with. Its not that easy and your going to find out real fast. Alot of people fall for the money lies, and thats where they end up getting burned. I was "told" by my recruiter once that I will be seing my bonus paycheck right when I get out of tech school, but I didnt see it until an year later. But I didnt let them get to me, I went in and knew what I got on the ASVAB, and chose my career. They wanted and tried to sneak me into UXO Disposal and I said fuck no. But still, good luck.

EDIT: Oh and please tell me you didnt converse with the certain retards at MEPS about how your going to kick ass when you are in the lounge. Please for the sake of God you didnt. They always, ALWAYS get burned. Period. I saw this one douche at MEPS about how he is going to destroy as many towel heads as there are by being a USAF Combat Controller... found him in Kuwait as TMO. HA!

well all the shit hes been saying is very possible. as long as i keep doing what i do best, i should be fine. basic wont be hard for me. i got several months, a gym membership, and whey protien. ill be in better shape then i was after football. i do my pushups and 100 situps daily before going to the gym, where i run 1.5 miles to start, lift weights, use the ab machines, run again, do some squats, bench press, then last mile run. i usually finish my workout in less than 2 hours. go through 3 bottles of water. overkill maybe?

oh and they tried sending me to hawaii this month for sub radar. i said im stickin to my contract. i made sure he knows that everything on that contract goes where it should go. im not taking any offer but the one me and my job liason picked out. thats final!!

maybe i might deviate to be a navy seal at some point. who knows.

lol noo i just stayed quiet and no'ed them to death. didnt talk to nobody except my roomate at that hotel waiting to go to meps, i was pretty bummed the fuck out that there werent any hot chicks.

lol there was this one skinny ass blonde chick going to the marines. i loled

Yea you're pretty much fucked. Eventually (hopefully) you will learn that the military is about 80% mental and only about 20% physical (basic is even more so mental over physical.) You're gonna be one of those PT beasts who breaks down crying the second week when you're getting the eer living shit smoked out of you and want to go home.

Ok I'm done fucking with your emotions now :fawk:

Your going downhill already. Please stop for the sake of your dignaty. Its not about you, and your going to see that. Keep this attitude the military will chew you up and spit you out.

Fyi: hot chicks are in the air force, marine chicks arent people to mess with.

Don't fuck with Marine chicks in any way, do you know how fucked up a chick has to be in the head to sign a Contract with the Marines? Also, stay away from Army chicks if you're ever in the position to be around them, don't ask why, just know you're doing the right hting by staying away. If you must have a military girl..AF all the way.

she was skinny as rails!! it was awful. shes gonna get the absolute shit kicked outta her. no muscles. granted she probably could do 200 pushups seeing how ungodly skinny she was.

the only reason why im doing such a strenuous weight lifting ritual is because im in such bad shape. the way i write things and how i sound when talking are way different, i know what im getting into but not exactly how? if that makes sense. but im not scared. i dont think i could be a marine by any means, ive seen boot camp videos, theyre fuckin baad.

but yea ive ive seen a few seamen in the naval office and they seem practically normal people, no thousand mile stares or anything.. i think the navy is all about looks and job duties really. my grandmothers been saying theres nobody shaper dressing than a navy seaman. i feel confident, im a good dresser :bigtu:
oh and id be the third person in my family in the navy. 4th in the military.

Confidence is good, cockiness is going to get your ass kicked in basic. Military is all about working together and being able to co-exist with anybody in any situation. Personal achievements (including the physical shit) is great, but you're not going to make E7 in 8 years on that alone.

Get your head in check and start studying your shit, no some Navy history, learn any General orders, creeds, whatever the Navy has because they'll be drilling that shit into your head all through basic. The PT will come in time, not saying don't try to get yourself in shape, but believe me they're going to get you where they want you int he 6-8-9 weeks whatever Navy Basic is now.

DI's Drill Sgt's, whatever the hell the Navy has.....they're gonna fuck your head hardcore when you get there and there's nothing you can do about it, just be far enough ahead of the curve that you can make it through without offing yourslef or somebody else.

EDIT: FTR, I'm 125lbs soaking wet at 5'9 and I've been in the Army for almost a year and a half, earned the Expert Infantry Badge (even though I'm not infantry by a long shot, look that shit up, not a cake walk) score 290-300 on every PT test, earned two Army Achievment Medals and I'm getting ready to go to West Point, and have gone from E1 to E4 (hit a wall with Rank b/c my MOS sucks for promoting people, which is why I'm getting my commission), if you think someone's size is any measure of their current or future success in the military, get that shit out of your head now or go fuck yourself.

this army chick from puerto rico was flirtin with me while she went over my contract. ;) should i be worried? she was a lil shorter than me, like 6'1". pretty damn tall. but mad cute.

kplafin, what are some things NOT to do in basic? should i possibly get the idea out of my head to attempt anything with the navy chicks that sleep only 5 feet away from me. lol ;) jk

btw i really hope you guys arent thinking im like that fat dude in full metal jacket. my head is a lot stronger than that: i had a strict hatian parent armed with a belt. lets just say i had some seat time in people yelling at my face.

yeah yeah just keep your ass at the security check point and let me load your humvees on the C17's... all we need is some retard not paying attention to spotting signals and down another bird from damage to the loading ramp.

id also like to note that i do better work with others. if im in a group and the others are staring at the ceiling blank, i initiate.

Newbsauce 03-01-2010 03:26 PM

This is the first military conversation I think I've ever seen where someone brags about military pay. No offense, but pay isn't exactly why people generally stay in the military. If pay is your concern, you should be a contractor.

As for "buying a house and setting up shop" in japan, I'd just save your money. It sounds like you've made some shitty decisions in the past, just take it slow and build a nest egg. Oh and don't get any girls preggo. No really.

My grandfather was ATC and he at one point was suicidal if I recall correctly. Obviously he didn't kill himself though, I'm here. For sure a stressful job.

navy seals are more reconnisance missions. marines do heavy work. seals go through more training, i dont think its much harder, more complex if anything i m educated o

Pen2_the_penguin 03-01-2010 04:27 PM

pffft if you think they are bad ass search Combat Controller.

mgeoffriau 03-01-2010 04:29 PM

You know not what you say...

FWIW, I'm an active duty Sergeant in the Army, almost 5 years in, and you are dreeeeeaaammmiiinngg if you think promotion is as easy as you think it is. E1-E4, sure, just be in the right place, right time, right uniform. Everything changes when it's time to get into the NCO ranks. (and yes, I know the Navy and USMC E4s are technically NCOs). If you're thinking about spending your E8 pay and you haven't even shipped yet... Jesus man.

I still want you to explain where you're getting 3k EOM pay every two weeks from.

dpexp 03-01-2010 06:24 PM

Im former Navy, good luck to you. You are in for a serious reality check. Guaranteed duty station before boot camp? nice. Assuming you even make it through ATC school.

ok banks im former navy gunners mate served in the first gulf war.
so far everything you have posted you have no fucking clue what you have gotten yourself into. get your fucking shit together when your on a ship your fuckups can cost many people there lives.
who ever told you your going right to the reagan is full of shit they don't have a slot for you yet you'll find out where your going after air traffic controll school. boot camp is alot of mermory most important thing is dc fire fighting everyone on board a ship is a FIRE FIGHTER FIRST!!!!!then your rate second.e7 in three years your dreaming thats a chief petty officer thats about 8 years clean service knowing your shit and clean evals.

no getting drunk and arrested at a turkish whorehouse ask me how i know.
you will be stationed on a ship period it will not stay in port long. so no you won't have an apartment. youll have a bunk and a locker and you will live out of that beds are stack three high.

its crowded besides talking on here find a navy forum talk to them get the facts straight your going in as an airdale lots of deck time very dangerous work. if you have any questions ask me i do my best to get you an answer.

last thing seals are fucking insane dedicated work horses you have to go through whatever rate you have after 18 months you can try for seals.

if your say to a seal hes about the same as a marine his gonna damn near kill you and no one and i mean no one is going to step in to help you and brass will look the other way when they write the report how you slipped and fell down the stairs.

and out at sea in the navy we fight on a reg basis nothing better to do ask you recruiter what a pink belly is.

not to be putting more salt in the wound... but this is light commentary for what you're about to get... get used to it. Welcome to the Department of Defense, and the US Military, you may leave your personal and egotistical baggage here, or you can have it ripped from you in the first week of basic.

browning 03-01-2010 08:34 PM

wouldn't trade my navy days for nothing. been all over the world. got my blue nose and shell back certificates did 2 med cruises 3 north atlantics caribbean several times. nothing in my life has ever come close to being out on 3inch fity mounts middles of the night watching the ocean go by and seeing all the stars its truely amazing!!!!! i was young fresh out of school and had a blast. i went in broke and an e1 came out broke and an e4 petty officer third class. but had a hell of alot of fun. theres alot of shit to put up with and it all rolls down hill. ;)

FRT_Fun 03-01-2010 08:37 PM

OP, Congrats. Just remember don't take everything the military tells you for granted. Get it in writing, and make sure you get names of who promised what, when and where. Save every single piece of paper you are given, better get a big file cabinet, the military loves paper work. Don't marry your GF unless you love her and would marry her regardless. Don't get a huge house, the military will give you Basic Allowance for Housing, it's a set price for where you live. If you can find a place a bit cheaper than what you get for BAH you can pocket the rest.

Either way you have a lot to learn, if you have general questions there are a lot of us in the military on here, ask.

Edit: Wow didn't see this second page... and I guess I didn't read most of the first page seeing some of the quoted stuff. Anyways most of what I said above still holds true, but I'd like to add that attitude and appearance are huge in the military. Better start either being humble or appearing humble now and save yourself from hell later.

Warning - civilian with a story - Warning

My dad told me all about how they promised him a tour in the Mediteranean. He did two on the Kitty Hawk and two in the Australian outback.

The moral of the story as he told it is that that promise means jack in war-time.

magnamx-5 03-02-2010 12:10 AM

i wanna see you hit e6 in 4-5 yrs thats doing something gl to you banks but ranks arent given out at mail call every week.

FRT_Fun 03-02-2010 02:31 AM

Not saying I agree with moving up in ranks quick (experience takes time), but e6 in the Army can be done middle of 4 years to 5 years. Assuming you are in a MOS that has min points for e5 and e6 and you are squared away.

He's not exactly in an MOS (or w/e the Navy calls it) that's in desperate need for people, he's like the Field Artillery of the Navy (as far as #'s go) so I'm thinking promo points are up there. Then again I'm Army, not Navy so things may be a lot different, I don't know, but I wouldn't count on E7 in 8 years by any means.

kotomile 03-02-2010 05:34 AM

I wouldn't count on E7 at all - you have to be really squared away in the Navy to make Chief and the competition is crazy.

I'll be up for E6 in November, right at my 5 year mark FWIW. Not impossible in the Army, but from what I can tell it'd be a feat in the Navy.

browning 03-02-2010 07:31 AM

my gunners mate instructor was one square away mofo took him 10 years to make chief. theres only so many openings and you compete for that promotion there could like for me 1400 people trying for 5 openings i could of cross rated into something else but didn't.
