Yup. Heavy duty diesel engines are a completely different animal than the diesel engines you see in most pickup trucks today. The kicker is that I scored the new bus with only 140,000 miles on it and burns little to no oil. It was worth about $7-8000 for the bus itself, but I got it for $4000.

For a constant torque, HP increases linearly with RPM. 100 ft/lbs at 1,000 RPM is 19 HP, however 100 ft/lbs at 8,000 RPM is 152 HP.

Big diesel engines tend to operate at very low RPM relative to small gasoline engines. Thus, they can produce massive amounts of torque, but relatively little HP.

Negative.

Horsepower is a mathematical equation of torque and RPM.

Crappy little honda engine, 1.6 liters, 200 horsepower, 100 pounds of torque, 9000rpm.
Giant *** mother ------- diesel, 9 liters, 250hp, 900# of torque, 1800rpm.

See the pattern here? Lack of torque is why rubber band engines spin to oblivion and make no low end power.

In for programmable, scrolling destination sign and mirror image messages like:

"STOP PARKING IN THE LEFT LANE"

Or regular messages for passerby like:

"I'M A BUSSSS....I'M A BUSSSS"

or

"HELL. FIRE, DAMNATION, SURPRISE BUTTSEX AND MIATAS"

etc.

I could take two engines, one with 300hp and 250ft-lb of torque, and another with 150hp and 750 ft-lb of torque. Geared correctly, that 250ft-lb engine will always pull twice as well as that 750ft-lb engine.

Is torque useless? Not at all, but when the equation is: Force * speed = power, saying that either force or speed is a more valuable measure than power is pretty retarded.

I lolled.

Once upon a time I saw a WERA Endurance team's hauler made from a school bus. They put a ramp under it and just rode the bikes up in the back of the bus and tied them down where the back several rows of seats would go. Seems to me that a Miata would go right in the back of a bus just fine...

You know those fold down bike racks on the front of city buses? Bingo.

You all aren't thinking big enough....

Miata goes ON TOP!

If I had unlimited time, I would photoshop a city bus pic with a pic of a car-hauler tractor-trailer :P
