Well, I've decided to sell the car to the other guy.

I might take some of the profit and buy my brother something nice for his birthday in May. Something pawn shops wouldn't want. haha Maybe a shit-ton of Nicorette or something.

I know my bro wouldn't have had the money anyway, and lending it to him or a payment plan just isn't something I could cope with. It's good that my brother doesn't know I have it, that is, if my mother didn't mention it to him like I asked her not to! It helps w/ the guilt that he never had a clue about any of this.

Thanks for the advice guys.

:giggle: Thanks for the patches, these things really help you get fucked up!

Get him an electronic cigarette. Those have actually helped me quite a bit in my quest to quit smoking.

Selling the car was smart. Giving him something just because you feel guilty is not.

He's nearly 30 years old, his decisions are his not yours. His situation is most likely self inflicted so anything that you do for him at this point (charity) is only going to allow him to continue. If you want him to change, don't give him the tools to maintain the status quo.

I know how you feel. I've got an older brother that is a massive disappointment, made some decisions that I can't accept (to do with his family) and the guilt at times has been pretty intense. I've now written him off and will have nothing to do with him until he is ready to accept his responsibilities and do the right thing. It's been nearly 6 years and I'm still waiting, I've got two kids that are nearly 6 and 2 years old that haven't met him. I refuse to waste my time on him and ignore his failings as a human being. I no longer feel guilty, unfortunately I only feel anger.

You want to help him? Tell him you won't talk to him until he get's his shit together. You'll help him the best you can on your terms, but don't help him maintain. It will not get better on it's own, he will continue to self destruct. It won't end well for anyone involved.

Just because people are family doesn't mean you have to accept the stupidity that they do!

Making enough profit to buy a megasquirt is a nice outcome to all of this stress in deciding what to do w/ the car.

Boost, here I come!

Good for you, you did the right thing.

Thanks!

Funny this thread was brought back up... The guy I sold it to called me Wed. or Thur. and said his friend who is driving the car was broken down at a gas station down the street from my work (he works at the airport too I guess?) and he wanted to know if I could go and troubleshoot it.

I looked up some prices online for him while I was on the phone and said, "Now, I know the alternator is mounted right there on top, I can go swap it in the gas station parking lot within 5 minutes, but it'll cost you as much as a tow. You pick."

Said he'd get back w/ me and then never did. I'm glad he didn't actually. I've been detailing my other cars at home these last few days and didn't feel like messing w/ that clunker.
