I'm not using any more data on LTE than I was on 3G, but then 95% of my day is spent within range of a wifi signal.

I like that they finally took care of the pink shirt issue.

Well, since they got rid of Google Maps, I am not sure if you can say they improved their apps.

Also a fun fact I learned today, Apple spends CONSIDERABLY less on R&D as a % of total revenue than their competitors.

I always joked that they were a marketing company which also sold computers. I didn't know there was a factual basis for my joke!

Braineack 09-13-2012 03:09 PM

but panorama bro.

IIRC LTE uses round-robin scheduling, meaning that bandwidth really isn't the problem as much as the total number of users is.

So it will indeed get interesting as more users get on LTE.

This. When I got my first 3G Blackberry, it was TITS until every other regular jackoff got a 3G phone. When I was at DefCon in Vegas back in August, my 3G phone was basically worthless and my co-workers 4G LTE phone was kicking ass and taking names.

Early LTE adopters are gonna pissed when they realize how much they are paying for how little they getting once the market is saturated with devices. This is of course dependant on location... I would imagine San Jose, CA is going to have a higher density of 4G LTE devices than say... Twin Falls, ID (if they even get LTE rolled out in that market...)

Braineack 09-13-2012 03:24 PM

Oh I'm getting one, but only to tune my suspension:

So when are you writing the MegaSquirt iPhone app, brainy?

I want to tune my car, but I don't want to get off my couch. Can't anyone help lazy shits like me?

Also, finally found a use for the iPhone 5:

It's revolutionary.

I was more meaning the new bandwidth caps that all providers have been switching to.

There will never be a megasquirt app for the iPhone. Phil Tobin the guy who writes TS tried, the blue tooth support that the iPhone offers without being jail broken sucks to much to make it possible.

I feel empowered when I criticize things which I don't understand, and make fun of the people who support or embrace them.

The bandwidth caps are a bandaid. The problem is round-robin gets slower the more users you add. Verizon has had very popular LTE Android phones out for a while, so I think they are probably better prepared than AT&T (who has been spending their money trying to buy T-Mobile rather than building out their infrastructure). Is AT&T ready for a doubling (or more, numbers pulled from ass) of it's LTE subscribers?

I was going to pre-order mine early this morning, but decided to hold off. Only because I want to go over my last year of bills and compare my ATT plan to Verizon/Sprint.

Still might order one before the day is over. :)

Never is a strong word, especially when such an app already exists.
