Yesterday at about 2am in the morning, as I was heading home my 91 was killed [totalled]. Some asshole in an Explorer had just left the casino after watching a fight, took a RED light onto my Miata. I have to say I was extremely lucky as the Explorer was less than a foot away from T-boning ME!. All I saw was bright lights and BOOM!!! the car looked like a beer can at a frat party. As I was still in the car and I saw the driver of the Explorer outside looking at my car. He grab his head, and RAN AWAY, yes the motherfucker took off on foot :bang:. A little after the Fire Rescue showed up and took me to the hospital. At the end of the night I learned that the driver that ran away IS the owner of the car that hit me, however the tag on the car at the time of the accident IS NOT the one that belongs to that particular vehicle. The driver was extremely intoxicated, as his girlfriend when she showed up at the scene describing that he had gotten home yelling that he had crashed. There's a high possibility that the Explorer doesnt have any type of insurance. In other words Im fucked and I have to go after this idiot in a civil case to cover my losses and medical bills, as I only have the PIP required by law.

Well I can say that I was lucky as Im still here, but is sad to see my car go like that when I was weeks short of finishing my project.

Who cares about the car. At least YOU are OK.

I know like I said lucky for me the car took most of the hit not me. However Im left upside down, specially when is unsure whether the other driver had insurance or not. Meaning I might end up with large bills and a lengthy litigation for damages.

I'm sorry dude. I nearly got hit in my Miata on Friday...most of my parts are in my office and not on the car, so it'd make starting over easier, but I was in that split second dreading looking for another car.

Buffon check your policy most have underinsured and uninsured coverage percisely for that reason. Mine only costs like 50 bucks and does 20k50k i believe. Its a pretty standard option most people gloss over.

I have the minimun the state requires, which in Florida is not much we are a No Fault state. Im trying to get to some co-workers to see what my next move should be.

KY is a no fault state as well and this is as i said a pretty standard rider. Considering you didnt waive the pip, etc i bet you have it check your policy.

Just talked to one of the attorneys I work for. He'll be sending letters out sometime this week to request policy limits. Ill post about it when I find out more.

So correct me if I am wrong here, but it seems like the cops could have picked that guy up and thrown him in jail especially since his GF showed up talking about how he had admitted to it. Fleeing the scene of an accident, improper (stolen?) license plate, and suspicion of DWI come to mind.

Thing is that the guy ran away, again, after his girlfriend talked to the police officers. The officer in charge of the investigation told me he himself went through the gf's house and found nothing. It seems that this guy fled to a friend's or a relative's place. After I spoke to the officer the police was still looking for him. Although the guy is an idiot the car is registered on his name and he left it at the "crime scene", if you would.

Till now I havent heard any updates, but Im confident he will be caught and also charge with criminal charges. As a matter of fact Im waiting for a court date to appears a witness for the state in reference to the incident

Hopefully they will catch him and he'll be fed the cockmeat sandwich in Guantanamo

Sucks man, I know the feeling. That happened to me as well, except it was an illegal Mexican woman in a Mercury Mountaineer. Ran a stop sign and BAM, nailed my front end. Didn't look to bad until I popped the hood, the whole frame was bent out of shape. Got a new front end. Damn near totaled.

When she hit me, she floored it out of there. A guy behind me who saw it happened set chase in his breadbox van (quite a spectacle :D), followed her and brought her back to the scene of the accident. Woman had no insurance aswell.

Now the owner of the car (The illegal's sister) is being sued by insurance and the city. Fucking deserved it.

But one new front end later, I'm good to go.

And this is why I have such distain for illegal Mexicants. This shit happens ALL the time in Atlanta. Ever since then, I've had this pathological hatred for both Mexicans (illegal) and Mercury Mountaineers. 2 days before the accident happened, my sister got rear ended by an illegal in a Mercury Mountaineer. Her E430 was damn near totalled as well, the guy hit her so hard that she smashed into the car in front, which hit the one in front, which hit the one in front of that. I honestly don't know how it wasn't totaled. Don't have pictures, unfortunately.

Oh, and off topic, if I got a billboard it would say "No fat chicks". Fat chicks piss me off more than illegals.

Out of 857 arrests, there were 124 violators of no driver's license. Observations include- Most hispanic violators also included accidents/dui/improper equipment violations (in that order) and about 1/4 were marked "hold for immigration" which means they are habitual violators, about half the black violators didn't have insurance, about 1/4 hispanics didn't have insurance, 2 whites didn't have insurance. Dates of arrest were between the afternoon of 11/13 to 8am on 11/17...yes, all of this in less than 4 days.

105 hispanic
13 black
3 white
3 other (middle eastern/asian)

This is for one county. The sheriff, Butch Conway, says the county spends about $7 million a year on housing illegal aliens. Talking to Gwinnett officers, they have told me that ~98% of the 'no license' violators are illegally here.

My wife is a legal, naturalized citizen (and was before we married). Her family spent nearly 5 yrs apart while they went through the proper immigration channels, with her father and older sister coming over first.

Her pet peeve is illegal immigrants that don't pay taxes, and don't care to be a part of our society. I get upset all the time about illegals in poorly running cars, crowding up the roads and causing accidents (porque no entienden como conducir aqui), while they generally don't have insurance and registration. Registration is a road tax, which we all pay. How can we be OK with someone using the road when they don't pay taxes for it.

I can assure you the numbers for Harris county are similar to those Dopple posted.
