Now I'm really mad I had to work. Did anyone see this?

:vash: I missed out on an autocross school and 2 competition days because of work. Now I'm really dissapointed. This was at Portland International Raceway. Wasn't even a track day, just autocross. Makes Undercover Brother look like Sterling Moss. At least the comedian only wrecked one car.

Would have loved to have seen this live! Lesson learned. Friends don't let friends drive exotics. :bigtu:

Loki047 04-27-2007 01:30 AM

I had a friend just flip his focus at the local autocross in central illinois... AUTOCROSS AND HE FLIPPED A FUCKING FOCUS!!!

timhill78 04-27-2007 01:35 AM

Oh man! I did course work with the guy who ownes the celica at the last eugene autocross. I kinda wish I went to the portland autocross instead of the salem one.

kotomile 04-27-2007 01:57 AM

My dad flipped an '87 Civic Si running D Stock at an autocross in '95.

The helmet has a nasty scrape where it dragged the ground through the sunroof.

It pretty much brought the whole event to a halt.. for half an hour.

cueball1 04-27-2007 02:05 AM

How freakin fast was this guy going? To go off course and plow through at least 5 cars. The damage done was unbelievable. I can't stand that I missed this.

Tim, where are you in Oregon. I'm aquiring parts for my build and would love to see what you did if you are in the area. Any other DIY miata turbo guys in Oregon?

akaryrye 04-27-2007 02:06 AM

pretty wild, wonder if the other cars were covered by insurance? Oh also that guy was in Atwater for the national tour as well.

cueball1 04-27-2007 02:07 AM

I guess everyone's stories of flipping cars, plowing cars, etc. makes considering the scca racing insurance something to look into. The guy with the GT3 could easily be out the car and the price for all the others.

timhill78 04-27-2007 02:09 AM

I'm in depoe bay on the coast. Are you going to the seaside autocross event this sunday?

cueball1 04-27-2007 12:36 PM

I'd love to but I'm pretty much stuck with driving events during the week. Weekends are my busiest time at work. I can occasionally slip out for local events but can't lose a whole day. Oh the joy of small business ownership.

Sounds like you get around quite a bit. Do you ever run in any HPDE events up at PIR? More of these happen mid week so I get to these more than I can autocrosses.

Braineack 04-27-2007 01:10 PM

worse i saw (5-6 years) was a corvette throwing a rod.....

timhill78 04-27-2007 02:01 PM

It is my goal this year to make it to one of those. I cook for a living so sundays and sometimes mondays are all I can usualy get off.

jwarriner 04-27-2007 02:07 PM

Bad course design or the guy was going way way too fast. Probably both.

cueball1 04-27-2007 02:10 PM

Tim,

The BMW group has a monday HPDE coming up on May 7th. I'm planning on going if there is still space available. Check the Portlandraceway website for links.

curly 04-27-2007 02:24 PM

hey cueball1, where in oregon are you located? I just put together my 50% greddy, 50% DIY kit on my car. I'm around the portland area in oregon city (home) westlinn (GF) and sherwood (work) I've got to a few of the cascade sports car club track days, but none so far with my turbo.

cueball1 04-27-2007 02:34 PM

I'm in Tigard. Check out my website and you'll see where I am 90% of the time.

BMW hpde is sold out. Damn.

curly 04-27-2007 04:08 PM

cueball1 04-27-2007 05:53 PM

I live with all the other old folks in Charbonneau. I'm at my store 7 days a week.

timhill78 04-28-2007 12:53 AM

Sold out! Damn that would have been perfect.

blue89turbo 04-28-2007 09:42 AM

Man, that guy did a lot of damage. I think that Celica and the Subaru and even the Porsche could be totals...

Ouch.

kung fu jesus 04-29-2007 01:00 AM

read the comments after the pics, interesting.

i used to stage autocrosses for a club when i lived in michigan. i never saw any wrecks. i did see some stupid moves though and banned 3 people from our events.

i stopped autocrossing because i grew tired of dealing with peoples' petty bullshit. i switched to hpde and track events. much better.
