Oh I'm a bad man

So I'm buying a 1985 Rx7 GS this weekend...Streetported rotary 12a, brand spanking new rebuild, runs beautifully, no rust, 5 spd 112xxxmiles...1500bux

I know I shouldn't but man, I need to drive something, so much work on the miata and no payoff, well yet atleast. Still to wintery to drive her anyway, not to mention working on it in the cold...

Not much left yet so its just a matter of some warm weather and a couple weekends.

it's got a big fucking dent in it and a rotary under the hood. RUN

miatamania 02-26-2007 10:32 PM

lol, they are a pain, but they are pretty sweet.

turbopezz 02-26-2007 10:34 PM

haha. all the ones i hear around here are about to fall apart.. dont think i have heard one with a rebuilt motor.. must sound good. all the ones around here sound like cans rattleing in a muffler.

krayzrac3r 02-26-2007 10:57 PM

dude i cant even trust a FD rx7 let alone an older one. One of my friends had a 94 or 95 i think... they all have heating problems vacuum leaks and problems left and right. Selling it was the best thing he did on that car

I miss my 94 when I think back on it. But I also sleep better now that I don't have to worry about it.

turbopezz 02-26-2007 11:26 PM

everyone i know with a rx7 roach,fc,fd, are all getting rebuilds right now.
yearly they have to fix there motors.

turbopezz 02-26-2007 11:27 PM

hey but good luck,i hear the 12a are the goods..

Al Hounos 02-26-2007 11:28 PM

N/A rotaries are pretty reliable apparently... but they're also slower than shit.

Ben 02-26-2007 11:31 PM

Slow, and dirty. Have you ever seen a rotary emissions test result?

dc2696 02-26-2007 11:59 PM

older rx's are more reliable than boosted ones. and I'd love to spend that money on the miata but like I said I can't drive it now anyways, its still winter up here and I need a new DD.

dc2696 02-27-2007 12:01 AM

I should add this is only temporary guys, summer comes rotary is gone

Trent 02-27-2007 12:08 AM

the old NA 12a's were pretty reliable. things fall apart when you apply boost though.

As for the FD's, they are just too complex to troubleshoot. The vacuum diagram is an absolute nightmare.

getsidewaysd1 02-27-2007 01:11 AM

Dude, if you really need a DD, just buy like a CRX or something.

jayc72 02-27-2007 01:21 AM

You bought a Rotary as a winter car?!? Bwahaha ... good luck getting it started if it get's really cold again :) And god help you if it get's flooded!

Seriously though, if I could find a really nice clean one, I'd be all over it it. With a big assed carb they can be quick as snot. Who'd you buy the car from?

LOOINEY 02-27-2007 04:13 AM

Buy a honda..lol Nothing like sliding in snow banks bouncing off the rev limiter....:gay:

adbradley 02-27-2007 09:48 AM

Rotary... RotaGAY

airbrush1 02-27-2007 10:12 AM

I for one will congratulate you on a badass car :)

Philip 02-27-2007 10:14 AM

take out the 13b and put a ford 302 in, it'll scoot then.

My brother just bought a POS 88 rx7. Every couple days I need to help him fix it, I hate it already. Mostly because I fix all its problems for no benefit of my own....and he wants to be a mechanic:td:

I will say congrats though. Its ALOT nicer than my winter DD, an 88 honda accord. I say play with it and have fun:bigtu:

Philip 02-27-2007 01:29 PM

converted to a single turbo the vac lines are greatly simplified.

airbrush1 02-27-2007 04:42 PM

yes that's why people go non-sequential or big single on FD's....

12a's are easy though..... not too many problems to speak of

dc2696 02-27-2007 08:54 PM

First off I already have a 96 ek with a jdm b16a2 in it so no more hondas allowed. secondly the rx7 has a 12 not the problematic 13b's. And this will b the first carbed vehicle I've ever owned, how do those things work again? I can't find the ecu???!!! lol
