****Disclaimer: Yes, I realize the OP was supposed to be humor****

Just where the hell is the instant oil rape that costs only 20 bucks these days? More like 40. And, if you send the wife, be sure to stress that she does NOT need their $20 wiper blades (each!), $18 PCV or the $65 radiator flush. I have seen bills from those places for the most basic stuff total over 200 bucks. WTF?

I do all my own oil changes (and have since I had a car) simply because I use the time to check over everything. Hoses tight? Any leaks? Condition of plugs/wires? Polish the oil cap?

Anyone that regularly changes oil should be able to get it up on ramps (Who the hell uses a jack for oil changes?), get the plug out and the filter off in less than 10 minutes. Check things over while you let it drain (beer optional, but highly recommended), and another 10-15 minutes to get the new filter on, get the plug in and fill 'er up. If it's taking you significantly longer, you're either more ---- than me (quite unlikely), or shouldn't be working on cars.

Also, if you've never done the "forget plug before adding new oil" thing, you haven't been working on cars long enough. It's a given, only a matter of time.

Nice

I added 4 quarts of oil to my Eclipse, forgetting to drain the old stuff out.

Hey !! I resent this!!!! Not all females are stupid!

I just bribe one of the guys into doing it for me. :D
1. I pay cost for oil.
2. gets done in one day (play the helpless female if needed)
3. blame someone else if it goes wrong. (Hank hope you aren't reading this ;) )
4. Buy 'em a few lunches as thanks. Guys love free food.

But, If i did not have access to Hank or Tim, your summarization is about right. LOL.

I had a brand new 302 I just built and swapped into my t-bird. I screwed the plug in hand tight and filled it up with oil. Made sure the level was correct. Spun it till I got oil pressure but it wouldn't start. I ended up waiting a week until I messed with it again, and then I noticed I wasn't getting oil pressure spinning it over. Over that week, 5 quarts of expensive ass synthetic oil sloooowly dripped into a 6" spot in my front yard. To this day grass doesn't grow in that spot.

Hey whats wrong with running oil till it's burned off? It's kinda how you do it in the RX-7. When you pull into the station its "Check the gas and fill the oil". And every two months change the filter.

Haha. I had a go cart like that. It had a bad crankshaft and would use more oil than gas, so about every 20 minutes we had to stop and dump some oil in it and after an hour or so check the gas.

My GF: "I can help! .... What do you mean: Lift up the car? Remove the old oil? If there is already oil in the engine, why do we need to do anything? Oh, you actually remove old oil and put in new? Why? I thought you just added some more when it was out? But, is it not like... dirty under there? OK, OK, I will go in and make a cake instead..."
