your musical chairs 2 shot is awesome, btw.

BlackBandit 04-29-2014 12:21 PM

Thank you very much.. I took it at the Rolex 24 with my cell phone. I wish I had a real camera. Taking shots with my cell phone is a challenge.

I actually put effort/thought behind this one:

and then i go and leave the damn visor down.

This is 11 exposures combined to make this one.

skidude 11-14-2014 11:01 AM

Brain, I like it, and I think it could be used as an advertisement. My only criticisms would be the visor (obviously), and the license plate (we all hate front plates, don't lie).

Depending on what you are going for, the background is either perfect or a little lacking. It is a beautiful background (and foreground for that matter), and really draws attention to the car, which is perfect if that is what you're going for. But there is no story there; it doesn't really add to the picture besides giving the car a pretty place to sit. Nothing leads my eyes around the picture, so as soon as I am done looking at the car, there is nothing else of interest.

So, nicely done. The exposure(s) turned out great, the car is nice and crisp and clean, and the background does not take away from the subject.

Just some out of 100gb of pictures. Please look at my flickr. I don't want to spam the thread over my excitement.

Those are above any caliber I am capable of critiquing. #2 is my favorite, though.

I saw some elk at the Grand Canyon while it was snowing. Didn't get any real clear shots like that deer you took.

got back to work on the well known to me and will forever be called the 100gb trip. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything in the case I never returned.

Yes, these do have some modified filters on them. I wanted to create a very distinct feeling that I felt while taking these pictures because I was crept out.

Good stuff. I like how you exposed the interior shots.

@blackbandit I like the heavy use of vignette to frame the shots in a dark space. Did you bump up the saturation to make them less "dead" feeling? the feeling of doom is totally there yet you dont seem to have to sacrifice color to get it. nice job.

BlackBandit 05-05-2015 08:44 PM

@Y8s

I'm going to go with my gut and say the reason I was able to get the pictures to come out the way that they did was the filter plus my adjustments to bring out what I wanted to feel out of the shot. Or its the other two things that might have helped out.

The Natural source of lighting the building with collapsing roof structure from the fire it provided...

or the new 5k Mac computer I just purchased to edit them on. I don't know what it is that the pictures are coming out nicely. The Fiance did have a play on them a bit with her eyes as well. It always helps to have a second set on a edited picture.

im surprised your camera isn't overexposing these since youre using multi-segment metering.

This is the shot prior to the edited picture above to show you what it really looked like with adding additional positive stops. I also brought down the whites and highlights significantly.

y8s 05-06-2015 05:41 PM

I'd say the windows in the first of those two shots might be overexposed. I haven't looked at the histogram. But that's par for the course when you're taking photos of dark things and light things at the same time.

BlackBandit 05-06-2015 09:17 PM

I 100% agree with you. If I dulled the light coming out of the windows, the rest of the picture would have become limp and numb with brightness. I can focus on the window alone but it wouldn't look natural.
