LOL, man. Any damage to the cobra? That is definitely reason #1 why you never trust anyone else's handywork. Can you imagine if it came off at speed? Jesus.

Yeah, that would have been bad at speed. Thankfully no, the car wasn't damaged, I was going really slow and stopped as soon as things started to clearly go fuckobazoo. The hub dropped onto the wheel, but thankfully the tire didn't get stuffed up in the wheelwell or break the body in any way. The whole setup was so sketchy and ill-executed, and the wheels so utterly inappropriate for the car that I have to believe that the car had different wheels that he took off to either keep or sell, and stuck these wheels on in their place.

No matter, I ordered the new wheels and tires today. Summit Racing Legend 5 wheels, 225/40/18 front on 18x8.5's, 275/40/18 on the back on low offset 18x9.5's. Should fill the wheelwells out nicely. I went with 18's again after measuring brake clearance, I'm afraid a 15 or 16 wouldn't do it, so if i gotta go the large diameter classic wheel look to have a car that stops violently, so be it. With it's E36 BMW suspension and brakes I have a feeling it's going to handle like a terror once I get wheels on it.

These are the rims I ended up going with. Really similar to the Ridler 695's I posted earlier in this thread, but in a much wider selection of backspaces.

Ouch, right to the Corvette Summer references. That's how it is, eh?

Most people on this forum have no idea where that Corvette was from. I knew you would.

I think you'll appreciate a car I know of that is for sale. A friend of a friend built this car and cut all of the glass. He is a quirky guy that doesn't communicate well but is really good with body fab. He builds Model A's and Mercs among other things. He hates when people use Lexan because they don't know how to cut curved glass. I thought you might appreciate it. It really needs different wheels and a good paint job. The integrated spoiler, chopped top, and headlight peaks accentuate the exaggerated lines of the car. I think it was pretty visionary.

Most but not all. I held back, but the NACA ducts on the hood were definitely taunting me into posting corvette summer vette.

Your restraint is admirable Matt; Corvette Summer was pretty much the first thing I thought when I first saw the car.. Funny thing is that somebody spent a fair amount of money at Eckler's to add that Monza nose (like. $2500) and the "twin turbo" hood ($1500+/-). I like customized C3's, but probably wouldn't have gone with those particular pieces.

And yeah Six, I do like that chopped Bonnie. Change the wheels, give it a nice paintjob and it could be amazing.

Man, that is some scary stuff on the Cobra. People do some really dumb things with wheels and tires.

Dig the updates!

So I keep looking at all the real estate up in front of the motor and thinking "blow-through turbo".

Please, stop me.

Hurrrrrr..

So, it turns out it's not a Johnspeed car as originally thought; it's actually a Kit Car Centre car, another South African kit builder. KCC was owned by Rudie Malan, who sold the company (they now do Manx replicas) and Rudie took the cobra tooling and formed Backdraft Racing.

So basically it's a very early Backdraft car, which is excellent news, as they're regarded as one of the better manufacturers out there, and Backdraft spares will fit the car.

Some welcome good news to help me get over that whole wheel debacle.
