I'm ditching the cable company and losing my 12 year old email addresses from that domain in the process. I don't want to have the same problem later with the new provider.

I need a recommendation for an email provider, but I have certain parameters:

1. Must work with outlook
2. Must not try to integrate with everything else I open on my computer or phone (compartmentalization is important to my security) (sorry gmail/youtube/google/plus/evil meglamonstrosity)
3. Must be free or free-ish (I don't mind $10 bucks a year)
4. Would be nice if it was semi-permanent

Whatever you do, never, ever, under any circumstances, use the pathetic tub of crap that is Yahoo Mail.

The level of fail there is out of this world.

I use godaddy.. I think I paid $70/2 years. Small price to pay for a little privacy. No IMAP though without spending a bunch more which sucks

So far Gmail is my only account that has never gotten a spam email into my inbox.
Yahoo cannot be any more glitchy, terrible, and spammy if they actually tried.
The chances of them being "down" or erroring out on any given day is about 50/50

fastmail.com is can be as cheap as $10 a year and is a good provider. I have several technical friends who use it and love it.

The sex chats are a mod privilege.

I'd really like to keep the Google behemoth out of some portions of my life.

Outlook.com, huh? Is that the same thing as live.com?

The spam features alone are worth it in gmail. Set it up, set up outlook with IMAP and then never use google again.

I have yahoo and gmial. Gmail is the best I've ever used for all the reasons mentioned, yahoo is so bad I'm considering changing my info on several sites that use my yahoo and abandoning yahoo email permanently.

Anything to do with microsoft mail/outlook.com will likely drive you mad with needless total overhauls of the internet based inbox.

I guess if you use outlook/imap it wouldn't matter, though I thought outlook (the program) was dead and replaced with microsoft live apps or some other bullshit. I used thunderbird around the end of XP, when outlook express was dead, gmail will give you imap logins for free. Gmail app isn't too bad, but you don't have to use it if you don't want, use the imap login.

Yahoo no give imap, not for free. You can't search the spam folder and there will be maad spam, there's also no way to go add your own custom bayes based filter either, really blows chunks. Mark the same subject message spam twenty bagillion times, never will it filter the next one that somehow sent from the future...

I've been using the same one for sigunps stuff for at least a decade, though. It won't likely be going anywhere soon.
