I've always been of the opinion that Guitar Hero is uber ghey. Gee, let's make a video game of air guitar for wannabe musicians. Thanksgiving my college/high school age nieces and nephews broke it out. Everyone including my father in law was having a good time playing. Have to say it was fun to try. Of course I suck. Anyway my wife went out and bought it for our wii.

What's the opinion around here? Good game, great game, ghey, fun but I won't admit to it?

 

i liked the first few but now they're obviously just trying to rake in whatever revenue they can get their hands on by putting out eighteen thousand different versions like AEROSMITH and GODS OF ROCK or whatever the hell they're doing these days.

Also, as with any huge fad it has tons of negative stigma in that people believe it has gotten previous ignorant idiots to like some previously somewhat obscure songs and pretend like they've known that band forever and be pretentious hipsters like that.

So in conclusion, its ok, but rockband is also pretty damn good, if not better.

Edit: before I actually played guitar hero I thought the same of it that you did, but once I picked it up it was more fun. I'm also relived that I've never heard anyone stupid enough to think they can play something on a real guitar cause they can play it in GH.

 

It's not a game I will play on my own, but in a group of people its great fun.

 

btw, great drinking game: play against someone at a song, whoever loses takes a shot. Cue obscene drunkenness after a half hour.

There is one thing that I hate more than shitty 'bands.' Thats a shitty COVER BAND! Hey, Lets all get together and play (badly) music from a group that was actually successful. "Rockband" is even worse. Thats, "Hey, lets start a band and ripoff music (Even MORE BADLY) from a successful band, but I'm too much of a ******* loser to learn to play REAL musical instruments, so lets just buy this ------y game and act EMO Cool with the plastic piece of **** 'guitar' YEAH!!"

One thing about the new guitar hero that is nice is the beginner mode. Not too much fun for adults, but my 4 year old loves 'playing' the drums with me and he doesn't have to hit a darn thing correctly for us to finish the song. No, it is not real music, but it has done for developing people's interest in music than anything they teach in the schools.

Does anyone remember the game "Simon"? This is the newest version of that just set to music.

thought it was gay untill i played it, its fun to play and adictive as hell

 

I play it and rock band at my friends house. Its fun when he invites his two buddies Jack and Daniels over.

 

Rock Band mixed with friends and alcohol goes down well. I had a party a few weeks ago and we had a good time playing that game. I can sing Creep wit mad gangsta skilzz.

I also thought it was ghey being a former amateur musician and having grown up around music (my older brother plays gigs for money). But, my wife saw it at a party of a friend of mine (another amateur musician) and had to have it. Now I like it.

 

The game is brilliant. For people like me, with no musical talent, it is good fun. And it does get intense in battle mode. Add some brew into the mix, it is a good evening of sitting at home, or at friends house, being a total loser playing video games.

the one with sweet child of mine (II I think) is the best, and I'll admit I've enjoyed it both sober and after booze.

 

Ive been playing "real" guitar for fifteen years and I love it. I thought it sucked at first because I was terible at it. LOL Now I play it mostly while drinkin with buds. I dont know about other areas, but in SC there are a ton of bars that have tounaments. I have friends that have won and gotten $50 bar tabs!!

 

video games are the biggest waste of time on earth.

 

Thought it was stupid. Tried it, addicted to it now. It's one of the few video games I play.

 

Truth. Of course so are internet forums, reading, movies, television, work, driving, sex, etc. etc. etc.
