Question: What is the value of friendship?
Someone who you can be absolutely infuriated with over a pretty significant mishap, you can yell, scream, kick, etc. at them, but you still know that the 'friendship' is not in jeopardy...you'll still invite them over on sunday for a beer to watch the bengals beat the steelers.

sam says friends are the guys you get calls from that are in jail and need 5000 dollars.
I say friends are the guys who are in jail and need 5000 dollars and call someone they don't like!

A true friend is someone you can not speak to in 5 years and then get together like not a day has passed.
True friends are also the guys that share their wives with you. Good times ...

Love, friendship, respect, admiration are the emotional response of one man to the virtues of another, the spiritual payment given in exchange for the personal, selfish pleasure which one man derives from the virtues of another man’s character.
You call, he shows.
It doesn't matter the circumstances, the need, the place, the cost, the time involved, how long you've known him, how far away you are... it doesn't matter. You call, he shows.
If you are in jail down in Ensenada and the judge wants $5k cash for bail... the guy you call in the middle of the night and drives 10hrs down there no questions asked and forks over the money is someone you have a friendship with. Most guys have lots of friends... but very few true friendships.

Do not confuse altruism with kindness, good will or respect for the rights of others.
in truth i only have one or two 'true' friends, and i don't even hang out with them a whole lot. if they need something, they'll have my help, but i'm not ruining my life for their sakes. I prefer to hang out with family since I know they won't burn me. and if they do, it's not like I'm going away.
If you haven't already read, "The Count of Monte Cristo (1844)", I recommend it as an unusually perceptive study of the range of human emotions at the extremes.
