Default RX-7 with 1.6 miata engine

I saw this while browsing Craigslist. I would have never thought somebody would do this swap:

weird..

It couldn't have been easy.. so why not do something better instead of a 116 bhp 1.6?

SR20, F20C, V8, V6, etc.

Koto, That was my first thought as well. It seems like a ton of trouble to install that engine. I guess the one good thing is that he could reuse his stock AFM.

actually looks at home in there, maybe slow without a turbo but at least it will be way more reliable than the rotary

Someone recently bought 4 or 5 1.6L ECUs from my friend and said it was for RX7s, maybe this is becoming a popular swap? Seems dumb though.

Maybe they're just going for reliability.

Yeah, but the engines I mentioned would be just as reliable and probably no more work.

This was around before, and everyone knows the miata was derived from the RX-7, so why not put a reliable motor in Miatas daddy

The guy probably swapped the rotary into the Miata! When he was done he figured that was so much fun he might as well do something with the 1.6 he had left over.

its always bothered me how the miatas were modeled aesthetically after the rx7's and rx8, but something weirds me out about the generation gap.
