Default Scam check -- car sold during divorce?

My dad is looking for a Maxima/I30, and after sending an email on what looked to be a good deal on cars.com, he got this reply:

I am contacting you about the 2003 Infinity i35 I had advertised for sale. I am very sorry for answering you so late but I just passed trough a divorce, and I just needed to take care of the final details such as the divorce settlement. I am very glad that I took the car, because it was my husband's most precious thing, his pride.

Here are a few details about the car:
it has a totally clear title with no liens and no accidents (here is the VIN# JNKDA31AX3T115343 if you want to make your own checks too) 64,379 miles, automatic transmission, clean and clear title, runs good and looks great, it is a smoke free car, wonderful condition. It is dealer maintained only and it really shows up. Smooth shifting transmission, great engine too. Electrical systems are in perfect working order, new tires, always garaged, highway miles, driver air bag, anti-lock brakes, air conditioning with automatic climate control, alloy wheels, navigation system, cruise control, CD changer, CD player, passenger air bag, rear window defroster, heated seats, leather seats, power door locks, power mirrors, power steering, power seats, sunroof, tinted glass, tilt/telescope steering wheel.

The price I want for it is only $5,500, it may sound amazing, it truly is an outstanding deal and the low price is because I just want to get rid of it ASAP, since the bastard used it to take his girlfriend out on dates. It is bad memory and I should get rid of it. I would probably donate the money to help Haiti as it seems the best solution since I don't need the bastard's money.

A totally rust, corrosion and flood free car. Never been in any accidents.Where are you located?
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask!
I've never seen this before. I've seen all the "I'm in Iraq, I can have the car shipped to you" bs, but not this whole revenge/divorce/quick sale story.

Is this legit? It sounds terribly sketchy.

That reads like total bullshit to me. IMO if the car seems like an impossibly good deal...well...

I've seen some awesome deals during a divorce, but this one sounds funny...if it quacks like a duck...

Too many personal references to lend credibility, and the "rust free, corrosion/flood free" crap is idiotic to note on a 2003 model car.

Any sale is valid though as long as the person named on the title signs it...even if you're handing the money to his wife.

I once got a set of $2.5K golf clubs some poor bastard left in the trunk of the Mercedes his wife won in divorce for $200.

The language is just weird.

"Electrical systems are in perfect working order"

Who says that when selling a car? "Electrical systems"?

My Dad wouldn't be interested, but I might. PM with pics and info? I'm hoping to get rid of the Saab before it blows up on me.

EDIT:

Dammit, you snuck those "no windows, no interior" into the middle of that sentence. Can I send you a Western Union check for more than your asking price?

I would say that even if it isnt a scam, if that car is part of the conditions of the divorce, and he selles it to you, the cops can just come and tow it away and you will.

But the price is too low to not sell quickly on the street.

This.

Sold our fridge over the weekend...the volume of scam emails and data mining emails is frightening.

Non sequitur, because this is on CARS.COM, BITCH.

Just kidding. I figured scam (and already told my Dad as much), but he wanted me to do some "research" for him. This is my research.

I like it when I get responses to my wanted ads:

"Hello, I am very interested in your WTB: Beater pickup, do you still have it for sale? I can send you cash today. Please let me know about your WTB: Beater pickup item."

I highly disagree. I have bought TONS of **** from cl and sold quite a bit as well, and so far have had nothing but good experiences.

Something to look for:
1) if the car/bike doesn't have plates be careful
2) if no phone number listed be careful
3) offers to ship or transfer money any other way than cash in hand on the spot are 99.99% SCAM. In fact, I have yet to see an instance when they were not.

If you have to ask, then YES its a scam.

I like CL. I just skip email altogether, look for anything wierd (like that-stay away) and check it out myself. The worst thing that I have gotten from CL is a 70 dollar laptop that has a messed up touch pad mouse.
