Default scam? dodgy buyer???

I just got the following email to buy my car - sounds suspicious but have not called the number yet. What scam is this if any???

THANKS FOR THE MAIL U SENT TO ME...I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT.....I WANT U TO KNOW THAT THE PRICE IS OKAY BY ME AND AS FOR THE SHIPPING THAT'LL NOT BE A PROBLEM ..I HAVE CONTACTED A SHIPPING COMPANY THAT WILL HANDLE THE SHIPPING...SO THAT'LL NOT BE A PROBLEM...
AS FOR THE PAYMENT I'LL BE PAYING WITH A CERTIFIED CHECK WHICH'LL BE CASHED EASILY...I WANT U TO KNOW THAT I'LL BE SENDING YOU A CHECK IN WHICH U'LL DEDUCT UR $4,000 AND SEND THE REMAINING BALANCE TO THE SHIPPING COMPANY THAT 'LL BE COMING FOR THE PICK UP AT UR PLACE...TO SEND IT OUT I'LL NEED UR FULL NAME AND ADDRESS WHERE THE CHECK ' LL BE SENT TO AND PROBABLY UR PHONE #....MY NUM IS 206-984-1840...DO SEND THE INFO TO ME ASAP...

Sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't reply with any personal info.

Yeah they sent you a fake check that looks legit, you refund the difference, the bank discovers the fraud and your out of cash.

why not just cash the check anyway and then not send anything back? then if it works you have money if it doesnt then you didnt loose anything.

Why, so when the check bounces you get to pay your bank $35?

Better idea, agree to accept the check, and when it comes, bring it to the police station.

damn i figured if it wasnt you writing the check then how could they charge you a fee. i thought the isuer of the check was the one who got hit with charges.
