This whole video fascinated me. However at the end it really caught my attention.

What do you guys think?

I wish he'd go on about how he thinks its irresponsible to create ethanol with miscillium.

So he doesn't want to create biofuel FROM mushrooms, but using mushrooms to make the conversion? I don't know how that works, but I guess I like it.

you need sugar to make booze

cellulose does not convert to sugar very efficiently which is why e85 is energy inefficient.

the mushroom converts the cellulose into sugar. this makes e85 energy efficient

A biotech company that I may be working for this summer is pretty big into biofuels at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if that enzyme they developed to break down cellulose more efficiently was derived from those in mushrooms...

Yeast is also fungi, as is mold etc etc.

Getting the Ethanol (or methanol) from cellulose would make much more sense than from corn, sugar cane etc.

Thanks for the heads up. TED talks are always worth watching (regardless if you agree or not).

Right. The cellulose that is used can be derived from plant biomass (corn, sugarcane, etc.) and other products including forms of waste.

And TED talks do rock!
