Default Shipping + Insurance Etiquette Question

I sold an item on a Honda forum. There was never any mention of insurance for the item, nor did the buyer ever bring up the topic. My "for sell" ad read a description of th item then "125 shipped".

I'll be sending the item off tomorrow to USPS. Since insurance was never mentioned and if the package gets lost, who's responsible? Paypal won't cover it since he didn't fill out his address properly. Do I just cover it at a cost to me?

Just a question in which I never knew the answer.

Thanks.

I would just ship it out and make sure i had the shipping # ... if i was really concerned it was going to be an issue, like a high $ item, then i would PM and clear things up first.

If you ship it, and it's lost, you are responsible.

insurance default for me: insure it for the amount that makes it not a hassle to put everything back the way it was.

you sell someone a rare used part for $75 that is 150 new, insure it for 150. this should be included in your "shipped" price always.

Personally, unless its something very expensive I dont insure. Otherwise I do and make sure the buyer pays for it.

Hell, just email him and say "I'm shipping it USPS with no insurance as that is what I included in my $125 shipped quote. If you want me to insure it, it will be xxx$ additional. Do you want to insure it?"

See what he says. This way you have some leverage if he specifically declines the insurance.

Insurance is never included unless it is specifically mentioned by the Buyer (request) or Sellers statement.

It is never implied.

Even if he did fill out his adress properly, and it gets lost, paypal wouldn't give a **** because it's not an item bought on ebay.
