Should I buy another miata?
I am about to drop 35-50k on some spiffy new car. BMW 335d, Lexus IS-F, or merc C63AMG.
I really want something that is very pleasant to spend time in while I shlep around the DC beltway in stop and go traffic etc. Instead of buying one of the aforementioned cars, should I instead Just Buy Another Miata? I really love my miata so why shouldn't I just buy another NB for daily driving whroing? OR A NC |

I really want something that is very pleasant to spend time in while I shlep around the DC beltway in stop and go traffic etc. You can find 'em all day long for $15k in either coupe or ragtop. Comfy ride, capable handling, 370 HP / 387 ft/lbs. And sexy as hell. |
I've always thought about getting an NB and making the interior real nice. Adding nav, a nice sound system, sound deadening everywhere including on the inside of the hardtop, Alcantara seats, steering wheel, door panels ect. (since I'm guessing you don't want to go with suede). I think when I get an NB I'm going to do some of that, diffidently wrap the rollbar in something nice. Maybe start with a nice clean 10AE, get black 6UL wheels, a black hardtop. All that stuff plus xidas, big brakes, a 6 speed with 3.73 gears and a high revving LS1 would make my perfect miata.
Then again even if you left out the drivetrain mods, it would still be a project. I think a 335D would be a nice counterbalance to your high strung boostmobile, maybe it'd give you some appreciation for Miatas power. Saying fuk it to the Subi? EDIT: Aren't those jags horribly unreliable, hence the price tag? |

If I got another NB i would probably just put on my old racing beat exhaust and some lowering springs. And a rollbar when I found one. And my silver 6UL set. The used subie I was going to get was sold. I am just going to sell the subie to carmax or someone for like 3000. |
test drive. decide.

Can you drive something with 100rwhp again?

No miata. It would be a great economical idea but you forget you have a complete turbo kit and exhaust for an nb do you really what to have to control yourself from that.lol I would recommend something like jesse's vette 20k and it is sweet fast and fuel efficient when your foot is not on the floor. I think for the price the car is amazing. It also has enough ass that you will not want to mod it.

I went a few years without modding my daily Miata. I recently got a great deal on shocks for it and since the engine lived a life of sadness with the previous owner, it's going to receive a VVT swap. It's really convenient to have two Miatas in for maintenance and trouble-shooting, I have boxes of wheel bearings, sensors, bolts, clippies...and most go between cars just fine. I haven't owned a car that cost more than one paycheck in 6-years.
My daily is special: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328020050 No one would ever steal it, and this is somewhat liberating. I can park it outside in Houston and I know it will be there when I get back. If it hails, I don't care. |
Still trolling?
Fae picking a new car is like Hustler fretting about the reliability of his race car. Both are painful to watch... |

OK, I'll bite.
Just find a nice PRHT NC and drive it as-is without modding it. Or just get the 335D. They are basically the same car anyway. I can see why you are cross-shopping them. |
I might have wood.

get a daily driver that is impossible to mod. then you will no longer be troll with sawzall.
|
I saw a C32 AMG in Media, PA or might have been Conshohocken...it was black, gorgeous, had a window sticker that said 2010...$29,000
There. |

Just buy a mobile home.
Comfy, and you won't be tempted to mod. |

FailFlora will just have to get some snow tires for it and he will be fine in the winter. |
lol @
buy a mazdaspeed, they are sexy and you know it. |

Comfy, and you won't be tempted to mod. Home theater system, stirling engine or turbine genset, solar array, hybrid-electric & biofuel drivetrain conversion with onboard reactor, you name it. :D I went back and re-read the original post. I really want something that is very pleasant to spend time in while I shlep around the DC beltway in stop and go traffic etc. I'm dead serious. Avoid the ones with airbag suspension (it's flakey as hell and expensive to fix), but apart from that, they are reliable cars and pleasant to drive. |

Ought to be a fun ride, and perfect for embarassing the ricers. |
Buy some worn out NA/NB and swap in my entire drivetrain. 2560 with p/s & a/c and 3.90 torsen is perfect for a daily driver. You're 'local' enough to be able to pick it up in person and save on the shipping.
|
I'll sell you my NA in a few weeks. For realz.
|
I think my shitbox with the 10:1 VVT swap, 6 speed, 3.63, MS2, AST ride Is going to be pretty awesome for daily duty.
|
will you be using premium on that or 87 craptane?

Forget the turbo for the daily, that's too much money. I'm doing a 10:1 VVT swap, MS2+VVTuner, 6-speed, 3.63, and I already have the ASTs. I don't think I can do another 100*f Texas summer in an 85hp car with the AC going.

Forget no turbo for a daily, that's too slow. I don't think I can do another 100°F NJ summer in a 115hp car with the AC going.

Who woulda thought a big turbo car with a race clutch and 4" exhaust would suck in stop-n-go traffic.....
|
Enough to make me hate life.
But its ok i figured out that slipping it from 4000rpm does not judder and shake the whole frakking car Gonna go test drive some cars tonight. |
Seriously, there is a reason nobody builds a >350whp "street" miata.

Original plan was to take both apart, build one good car, and sell the remaining parts (mainly engine, diff, wheels, dash and seats). Everything else would be pretty much free. If you just want the shell, then free. It's straight and a clean title. Just hideous. |

So I test drove a 335d tonight. D stands for BOORING. I expected much more for FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. The bastard had a lot of road noise and the power curve was boring. Sigh. I really had my hopes high for that thing. Back to my original question. I think that the answer is "yes". I found a cheap NB that looks ok so I am going to get it. I'm gonna put 6ULs on it and some racelands and be done. I would much rather put that $35K extra for the stupid beamer or whatever into other shi like vacations and house crap. |
Pics of new NB please!

I knew you were gay. I had the NC idea all mapped out for you also! Oh well, you can do the same with the NB and be baller X2.
|
If your after a DD then an NC would really be a good option, you should at least test drive one.

10ae?

That is $3000? Thats a 10AE if I'm not mistaken.
|
So wait, lemme get this straight:
This potential daily driver doesn't have the hp/lb ratio of a liter bike, doens't spin the tires at 100mph, doesn't shoot 10' fireballs, and doesn't require constant replacement parts? WHAT A POS lol |
