I may keep it, but if I get the price I want for it I'll let it go. I really would like to have an NB with a Torsen, 6 speed and nicer interior. I don't know how I feel about dumping money into a car that I may not end up wanting to keep long term. I could always sell mine and pick up another while on a holiday leave.

I can be very wishy washy, thanks for the all.

Car I have now:

Open diff. ($500+ to sway in a torsen)
5 speed (would want 6 speed)
meh interior (could fix)
good exterior
good mechanically
New tires

NB (probs a 01+)
Torsen factory
6 speed factory
VVT factory
better looks IMO
better interior IMO
less work to be done to make it what I want long term
No dumbass pop up headlights

Shear, bro if you want a NB, go for a NB. But stop trying to justify it to us, the only person you gotta justify it to is you - remember, we'll poke holes in what you say otherwise bro ;b.

That sounds like a good idea:

Me: SIR, THIS RECRUIT REQUEST PERMISSION TO ASK THE SR. DRILL INSTRUCTOR A QUESTION.

Sr. DI.: TALK BITCH.

Me: SIR, THIS RECRUIT IS WONDERING IF HE SHOULD KEEP HIS NA MIATA OR GET AN NB, THIS RECRUIT REGRETS TO INFORM THE SR. DI. THAT HIS CURRENT MIATA LACKS A LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL, SIR!

Sr. DI.: FUCKING DEPLORABLE, YOUR MIATAS LACK OF A TORSEN MAKES ME FUCKING SIIIICK, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME SHITBALL?

Me: YES SIR, THIS RECRUIT REQUEST PERMISSION TO SELL HIS NA AND BUY AN NB WITH A 6 SPEED AND A TORSEN.

Sr. DI.: GET THE ---- OUT OF MY SIGHT DICK BREATH!

Me: AYE SIR! (Takes step back at the position of attention, gets out of Sr. DI's sight ASAP).

Yeah, I should be shipping relatively soon. I was supposed to ship Feb. 4th, then I broke my left Talos (sp?) which is in my left ankle, set me back a lot. I'm going back to MEPS early next week to get a consult and then they'll tell me my ship date hopefully.
On the plus side I ran the 1.5 mike Initial Strength Test (IST) today 53 seconds faster then I did last Tuesday, whcih I'm pretty happy about.
After my ankle injury they told me I'd ship April the 16th, which would mean I would be leaving tomorrow and arriving on the 16th (my 22nd birthday). I would have been in the 3rd recruit training battalion, which is the one my little bro was in and supposedly the hardest one, but oh well.

First off. Go hard or go home. You'll appreciate a hard instructor more later anyway. The new AF cats coming out of BMT are pussies. There is always a my sh-- was harder than your sh-- contest. You'll just sit and smile knowing yours was really the hell it was meant to be. I'd go into my experience but no one cares about my crap.

Second. If you WANT an NB, go get one. I did. I got my '97 cause it was a hell of a deal and was overseas. Didn't have many options at the time. Was tired of living on a motorcycle. I found my '99 on a good deal, or so I thought at the time, and bagged it up. Even with all the issues I still think I came out ahead. Personally I think the NBs are just better looking and don't look as dated as the flip ups. I have both, so don't flame me.

Third. When you get settled and moved in at you "permanent" station, be patient. Don't just grab up an NB. Patience pays off. Plus. the military doesn't pay as bad as everyone complains about. Even an E-3 is pretty well of. Free room, health care, blah blah. What you get paid is basically de-sposable income. I spent A LOT on booze, cars, motorcycles, and dumb stuff. Find a cheap chick+fun toy=profit

Also-if you get married just to move off base I will come out there and beat you. If any part of the reason for getting married is for pay or getting off base it will be worth the money/arrest to slap you. Trust me it never ends well. I've already bitc- slapped a Marine in public once, I'll do it again.

Zombie, you got experencee. I chose the Corps because I want to prove myself to myself, it that makes sense. I want to be teh beset and I want a badass tattoo to prove it.

I do want an NB. I will save up and get the best one I can find, but I will take my time about it and not junp on the first one I see.

In 3 months of bootcamp I'll have more $ then Ive ever had b4. YAY.

I ain't getting married durring my first 4 years, then again, to be a 'real' Marine don't I have to have at leats 1 divorce and 1 NJP? lol

I seariously do not want to get married duriing my first 4 years, If I stayu in I;ll become an officer for zhizzle. I ain;t going to be a statistic of divorce rates and alimony to some fukin' depend-o-potomus.

Please be careful with the "all of my pay will be dispensable" thoughts. I've seen far too many young airmen get over their heads in debt buying expensive cars and toys. An NB shouldn't set you back that far but consider that excessive debt is one of the fastest ways to torpedo a military career.

For some life lessons on finance, look at the MT.net 1%. They likely save at least 10% of their gross income towards retirement/investment (and many are likely well above that, particularly if you include employer match, profit sharing, etc).

The earlier you start with that, the easier it will be later.

I suggest you keep the NA and work towards a second vehicle (like a Jeep orlate '90s 4Runner for utility or an NB for a sportier daily driver) . Two vehicles are almost always better than one.
I think you keep

I am not a mt.net 1%, but currently I am putting 15% of gross into my 401k, then another 5% of gross split between HSA another saving account. Once my student loans are done I plan on opening a RothIRA and maxing it out at the 5k a year.

That's how you occupy the (MT) 1% - by becoming one.

Thanks for the advice. I won't buy anything until I have the cash to buy it, if I get a loan for it the loan will be to improve/make a credit score for the purpose of buying a house later. I don't intend on buying a car with credit or tying up all my money in a car. Savings come first, everything else is secondary.
