Run a chipped Beetle and if she is trying, you won't beat her.

A stock turbo beetle should eat a stock or even bolt on equipped Miata very easily...unless it was an auto.

That depends on the model of the Beetle. If it's the Turbo S (180hp version) then it will beat all but a built N/A, or give a good run to any low boost turbo one. The normal turbo model has 150hp, and is a good run for a minor bolt-ons Miata, except from a dig. Get it chipped and it'll beat you from a dig as well. My wife has a Y2K Bug and it's chipped with a 7lb flywheel, a VR6 clutch, and GLI 18" wheels.

My "POS Miata", as she calls it, tears it apart with the Greddy Kit.

Yeah, a boosted Miata should take all but the Turbo S easily.

Have you taken your wife's car to a dyno?

I did when it was stock, and it put down 134.4whp/140.1 tq

Did it again when I got the chip, and it was only 154whp/160tq. Then found out they had put wrong vaccuum lines on it, so it was running the wrong map and running lean and having the boost pulled. Then found out they had also cut the recirc hose, so it wouldn't hold the high boost. Got both fixed (nice to have a friend who works at a VW Dealer as their senior tech) and it runs really strong, but no new dyno numbers....yet.
