so I'm getting laid off on 9/29

It will give me time to build the car and I have enough cash set aside to tune it, and get in one track day or so.

my luck is awesome. :td:

I just wanted to share with the group that even though I'm a bitch, and losing my job, I'm actually going to build the car...against all odds of course.

Bum deal about the job. Atleast you won't be in a hurry to get the car finished and take any shortcuts. You have an idea for another job to transfer into?

I have nothing. I might end up just working for myself. I need a partner though; someone who doesn't look like a child so I can actually get a contract.

TurboTim 09-13-2007 01:43 PM

What do you do?

I review and instruct how to create "natural hazard mitigation plans" for states, local jurisdictions, and Tribal Nations for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, Pre-Disaster Migitation Grant Program, the Nation Flood Insurance Program, and do a few other less notable things. I'm overly specialized in a field that doesn't regard proficiency in hiring practices.

For the 3rd time in my career I'm expect to train someone with no experience ina position I applied for. Too bad I'm not a veteran...I might have a job next month.

I'm probably going to be bartending or selling wine after I take a couple weeks off. I haven't really been home since Katrina. Also, my roommate is getting married soon, so I have to find another place to live...I doubt my unemployment benefits will work for leasing a new apartment.

TurboTim 09-13-2007 03:42 PM

Damn, sorry to hear that.

Maybe I'll be a man for the first time in my life and start a business.

jayc72 09-13-2007 03:53 PM

That sucks. Hope you land on your feet quick. But if you fall on hard times you know that the majority of the fuckers here will buy all your turbo bits at 50% your cost! :)

All my shit is payed for. Its not going anywhere. I can always get a job as a bartender or wine steward and at least make rent.

Loki047 09-13-2007 04:02 PM

come to Chicago we can start making custom miata shit.

TonyC 09-13-2007 04:19 PM

sell cars. great/fun way to kill time. sell mazdas no less. put a lot of happy ppl in their new NCs.

and you'll still have time to bartend. w00t. g'luck man. getting a new apt w/ no employment is a BIATCH.

Yeah, back in February the same shit went down. I have a ton of money saved up of course, and some budgetted for unimportant shit like the miata. Hell, I'm even thinking about buying a 64" TV this week. I know I can make bills and rent, it just won't be doing something I enjoy.

Philip 09-13-2007 05:24 PM

...and we'll have to listen to you even MORE.

Arkmage 09-13-2007 05:36 PM

I'd snag a new apartment asap... they tend to charge more or not rent to you at all if you are unemployed.

xturner 09-13-2007 07:39 PM

Is there maybe a fit at one of the big infrastructure/enviro/remediation outfits like TetraTech or Shaw? They do big-time consulting and they have offices in almost every decent city in the country. Just a thought - I have a friend who's worked for both.

DO IT!
It's hard but there's nothing like telling your boss to fuck off and not get fired over it.

PS, I'm good at negotiating contracts. It's what I do :)

Braineack 09-13-2007 08:54 PM

I started applying for jobs on the 27th and just accepted one today. You need mad skillz like me homey.
