That shit is really bad here too. They confiscate modified vehicles and turn them into police cars. There's an undercover Blazer on 38's, a Black Charger on 26's, a F250 with wheels and tires and brush guard, an Escape, a tauris SHO, a riced out civic, a suburban that's got like 10K in suspension and off road mods, and they are unmarked cops. It sucks. I saw a Saleen state trooper a while back.

There are a pair of highly modded undercover 240s rolling around the chicago area. One of my UTI instructors rolled up to a red light in his 300ZX TT next to one, the undercover officer in the 240 kept trying to get him to race. My instructor asked the UC what military branch he was in, the UC replied with "I'm not in the military", and my instructor said "Well I see the chain on your neck so that means you have a badge under your shirt...". The UC denied it of course but when he pulled in for gas later, the cop followed him in and showed him the car and told him all about it. Basically they get you to race, you both get pulled over by a marked car - you get towed away, then the UC goes back to driving - but after you leave so you never even realize that you raced a cop. Since the officer that got you to race wasn't the one who pulled you over and cited you, its legal.:)

When i lived in SC we had the Camaro Cops, and M5 Cops around greenville. And some Bmw 540 State troopers. In tampa we have Magnums, and Chargers. The undercovers are anything from a riced out civic to a F430

there are a few ls1 hardtop camaros around here that have a stretched out gold eagle wrapped around the car, looks like some sort of fast and furious paint job until you look close enough to read highway patrol on the badge around the eagle

Sad thing is most of the state troopers in SC that drive the camaro's are too busy hanging out at demo's and parades to pull anyone over.

A few years ago when I had the turbo Corrado, an undercover cop in an impala SS was fucking with me, just annoying the piss out of me. I'd slow down, speed up, change lanes, he followed me. So finally I fucking lit em up and tore ass. Well he flipped on his lights, I pulled over, and he gave me an "exhibition of speed" ticket. Fucking ------.

I ran my mouth a little bit too because I was a dumb-ass 20-year old too.

I have no real problem with sending the ghetto bird and paddy-wagon out for street racers, but that's not what police use these for. They are told to take these cars out, and generate street racing tickets. The x-cop sitting behind me did this with a c5 z06. If you don't get tons of tickets, you don't get to drive the 500hp toy car.

Still the cops are acting like thugs and bullies prancing around on news shows with their shiny new seizures... Notice that the cops never seem to have any real exotics... that's because those folks have the resources to prevent seizure.

Wanna prevent seizure of your ride? LOL, have it financed. Let your bank deal with the cops. It's very difficult for them to seize something that doesn't belong to the offender... Alternatively let your friend have the title in his name, since you were just "borrowing the car." They can't seize it (not easily at least.)

Don't pull over for an unmarked car. Call 911 and ask if an officer is following your car (give plates, description). That's the only way I'd stop -- confirmation from the police dept.

I almost pulled over for a fake cop on my way to MATG06. Actually I practically did pull over, I was in the middle of no where an an older late 90s caprice came up behind me with red and blue blazing, as I was pulling over to the side in the emergency lane, he sped up next to me. It was some weird white dude in a wife beater. He put on some leather gloves and took off on an exit before I could get his plate to call in. Freaked me out!

Cops shouldn't be able to bait you into street racing? What, they should wait for you to try to race them? Do I like it? No. Is there something wrong with it? Not really. Whether it's a cop, or a 16 y/o with a new toy, if you take the bait, the risk is the same... that if you don't lose control, that someone else who isn't expecting the street to be a race track, to get in the way.

Frankly, I think cops instigating street races is dumb and shouldn't be allowed, for the same reason that they typically don't engage in high-speed pursuits of motorcyclists; high risk of serious injury/fatality. First time a cop instigates a street race, and some kid gets run over, it's going to be all over the news... on that front, I find it overwhelmingly hypocritical and stupid.

But, at the end of the day, the supposed purpose of issuing tickets, confiscating vehicles, etc., is simple. They believe that without traffic enforcement, they will be responding to more accidents; by keeping people paranoid thru traffic enforcement, people will be better behaved, and fewer accidents will result. It's a poor substitute for good driver training - come on, DMV driving test doesn't have you merge onto and off of the highway/freeway? - but it's what a majority of people tolerate.

As for driving your buddies car and not having it seized... umm... yeah. Maybe in some states that'll stick, but the ones I know of, when your buddy handed you the keys to the car (i.e. did not report the car stolen), he's assuming liability for what you do in it; whether you rob a bank, run someone over, or go street racing, the car can still be confiscated, and they'll be even more likely to want to do so... not to teach him a lesson, but to make everyone else paranoid about loaning their car to the lead-foot friend, especially the one who has been drinking.

Okay, end of rational thought, let's go back to bitching about pigs hating on people with fast cars, just because we want to let some of those ponies loose on the street, since we can't afford track time.

Actually, it is legitimate to refuse to exit the car until you've confirmed the identity of the officer by contacting their dispatch, but unless you're a woman (or in women's clothes), not pulling over is guaranteed to get you every ticket they can write you up for. If you are a woman, circumstances may vary... hell, I knew a gal, she got pulled over in her Miata by CHP on highway 85; they asked her if she realized 85 was the highway number, not the speed limit. (She had a lead foot, got out of more speeding tickets... ah, boobies.)

One of the neatest undercover cars I saw was a Lexus SC400 in D.C.

It was black, chromed rims, REALLY dark tint, etc. The lights were integrated so you couldn't see them in the grille. I believe it was a drug bust or sting of some sort near the Washington Monument.

lots of points made, but lets be honest, i dont condone street racing, especially when other cars are around, common sense always needs to pervail, every time i "raced" someone on a street, it was more like playing around, not balls out top speed runs for an extended period of time, kick it and see who pulls on the other through maybe 2-3 gears

It seems that from my experience in Dallas and OKC, police have funding for undercover street race operations, but don't have the funding so send officers over and create reports on hit and run incidents so I can file "uninsured motorist" damage on my insurance.

Cop rolls up in a mustang and I said he was a cop.. just looked like one, so my friend asked him. He denied it, then up comes another car after we raced him and stopped us. His lawyer went to town on that one. Same thing with a drug deal, if you start to buy from a UC and they deny being a cop, any arrest resulting in that deal isn't a valid arrest. Anything resulting from that arrest, like, possession of a weapon or other wise illegal activities are also nullified from the arrest. Thats how it is here, anyway.
