They see quite a few people who are downright delusional about their own abilities, and when she stepped up some of the things she said did sound like what some of the crazier contestants might say, how they could be bigger than some of the well known stars but never go the chance, etc.

Only she really was as good as she thought she was, probably better as if you watch closely it seems like she was expecting to fail. I'm pretty sure you aren't the only one who thinks it's wrong to make up your mind about someone before giving them a chance - this video is kind of an illustration of that. The look on Simon's face when he realizes she actually can sing that well is priceless.

This is really pretty much like what happens when a "wimpy, girly" Miata meets up with a Corvette or some other heavy iron and said vehicle is blown into the weeds. The poor dude in the other car had no idea what they were up against...a 2000 pound car with 250hp.

There is nothing like low expectations and then be blown away!!
