Suzuki Cappuccino

Seriously, has anyone actually driven or seen a Suzuki Cappuccino in person? It would be an understatement to say I have been lusting over these for years. I'm thinking maybe next summer I might try to import one. They are a turbo 3 banger, and I'd probably try to play around with the stock motor for a bit, but it seems to me like the car is just begging for a miata 4 turbo motor.

I think it would be totally awesome to have one of these. Such neat little cars. Id have to max out the turbo 3 first before an engine swap.

I saw a few when I was in Japan. I only saw them in passing, didn't get to stop and look at them closely.

I want one of these so badly. There's a guy in Canada that imports Kei cars and he has one every once in a blue moon.

Another person that loves these things. They are just so damn good looking, only ever seen them online though.

Yea I've been drooling over these for a long time. I think there was one in Initial D or something way back in the day.

I live on the West Coast of Canada, so most of the Japanese importers are located out here. A friend of mine imported a Celica himself from Japan and saved thousands over what the importers were charging. I'm slowly saving up a fund and by next summer should have enough to go for it. People bring in all kinds of RHD vehicles here - delicas, gtrs, supras, rx7s, crap even RHD miata's and civic hatches, but I've yet to see a Cappuccino on the road.

I'm curious- what's involved in importing a whole vehicle into Canada? In the US it can be a bit tricky, and in California, forget about it.

It's very easy. The car has to be at least 15 years old, and then you need to have proper headlights put in it and daytime running lights. It also has to pass a basic safety inspection. That's it.

To be more specific:
DOT Tires, DOT Lights, Daytime running lights. Insured.

NO NO NO! If it's begging for any 4 banger, it's a Suzuki engine, I dunno... say one that is roughly 1300cc..... The BP weight would kill that tiny car (even tiny by our standards, crazy!).

But yes, I fucking love me some Cap. If I had one, it would HAVE to be flared like that one. Regularly, they just don't quite look right to me. But with the flares it all comes together.

Good point. A hayabusa engine would be pretty intense as well... But that's probably too complicated and expensive for me. These cars were limited to 69hp I think, but I'm sure it'd be easy to open it up.

And i love the flares as well, but I'd be happy with a plain one as well.

I bet a mild boost upgrade would be plenty. There's a local guy to me who will import you one as a track car, but he would take forever to get anything other than his usual Daihatsu micro trucks. I think I'd rather have a Honda Beat than a Cappuccino, though.

NA6C-Guy 09-23-2011 12:44 AM

I think trying to make power with the 3 cylinder would be fun. I'm sure there are parts for them, though they may all be in Japan, so MAD TYTE RICE TAX applied to all parts. Who knows, maybe those internals are solid and you can upgrade the turbo and bolt-ons and crank up the boost and make it into the low or mid 100's range.

I was always partial to the Honda Beat myself. I got to testdrive a stock, ragged out example while I lived in Ireland so it wasn't that impressive.

It's like a Micromachine Viper.

Doppelgänger 09-23-2011 08:46 AM

Tasty. I've seen a couple popup on eBay from Canada from the aforementioned importer.

Fantastic Little cars. During a few trips to japan, I saw several of these driving around, and those pictures just don't do them justice.

Those things are TINY.

I would think that it could be much harder to import those cars because they wouldn't pass the crash test ratings for American standards. Probably why most "K-cars" are not being imported to America, but why the smart car is being sold here is beyond me.

mgeoffriau 09-23-2011 11:10 AM

I knew they were tiny, but it didn't really hit home until I saw this:
